Job description

Financial Counselor
Role Description:
The Financial Counselor will be responsible for leading the Rockaway Village Financial Counseling Program based at the Far Rockaway Opportunity Center. They will host monthly financial literacy workshops, conduct outreach, and hold one-on-one sessions to help residents living in affordable housing who are struggling with finances and in severe debt.
The Financial Counselor will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends, with regular work hours Monday - Friday, 10am-6pm.
This position is available for a one-year period, with a potential extension depending on grant funds.
Salary range for this role is $65-70k
Duties and Responsibilities:
โ€ข Work closely with management to develop and plan monthly financial workshops both in-person and virtually focused on budgeting, credit scores, debt reduction strategies, etc.
โ€ข Work closely with financial institutions to leverage resources and to facilitate workshops as needed for residents.
โ€ข Prepare one-on-one lessons for residents who are in debt and provide them with actionable strategies to reduce current debt
โ€ข Conduct outreach with the Resident Ambassador by contacting residents with significant rent arrears
โ€ข Prepare tasks for residents to complete prior to one-on-one sessions.
โ€ข Foster and maintain strong relationships with residents and offer a safe space for them.
โ€ข Be familiar with technology-related banking tools and apps.
โ€ข Use Salesforce to track residents' progress and follow-ups.
โ€ข Be familiar and open with working with people of different cultures and backgrounds.
โ€ข Maintain safe and healthy training environments by following organizational standards.
โ€ข Perform other related tasks deemed necessary by the agency.
Qualifications:
โ€ข Bachelor's degree required, preferably in finance, economics, or a business-related field
โ€ข Bilingual preferred (Spanish-speaking)
โ€ข 1-3 years of experience with financial counseling experience working with individuals of various backgrounds, including low-income communities, immigrants, etc.
