Job description

We are seeking an experienced Financial Counselor / Medicaid Eligibility Specialist to join our team in a fully remote capacity. This role is responsible for assisting patients and families with financial counseling, insurance verification, Medicaid eligibility screening, application processing, and securing financial assistance resources. Candidates must reside in Connecticut and possess demonstrated experience working with Connecticut Medicaid programs and eligibility requirements.


Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive financial assessments for patients and families.
  • Screen patients for eligibility for Connecticut Medicaid, financial assistance programs, and other government-sponsored healthcare coverage.
  • Assist patients in completing and submitting Medicaid applications, renewals, and supporting documentation.
  • Monitor application status and follow up with state agencies, patients, and healthcare providers to ensure timely determinations.
  • Educate patients regarding insurance benefits, Medicaid eligibility guidelines, financial obligations, and available assistance programs.
  • Verify insurance coverage, benefits, and patient financial responsibility.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all patient interactions and eligibility activities in designated systems.
  • Collaborate with case managers, social workers, patient access teams, and billing departments to support patient financial needs.
  • Stay current on Connecticut Medicaid regulations, policy changes, and enrollment procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, state regulations, and organizational policies.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Financial Counselor, Medicaid Eligibility Specialist, Patient Financial Advocate, or related healthcare financial services role.
  • Direct experience working with Connecticut Medicaid eligibility, enrollment, and renewal processes.
  • Must currently reside in Connecticut.
  • Strong knowledge of Medicaid programs, healthcare insurance, and financial assistance resources.
  • Experience reviewing income, asset, residency, and household documentation for eligibility determinations.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR), patient accounting systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously while meeting productivity and quality standards.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a hospital, health system, revenue cycle, or patient access environment.
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Marketplace plans, and other public assistance programs.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.
