UW Medicine Insurance Eligibility and Financial Counseling Services Team (IECS) has an outstanding opportunity for a Patient Financial Counselor - Front Desk Patient Support.
WORK SCHEDULE
  • 40% FTE (16 hours per week)
  • Variable Shift
  • Onsite position at Harborview Medical Center

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
  • Act as patient advocate, independently review patient concerns for appropriate action, provide scheduling for counseling with funding options; perform work that supports the patient financial services and patient relations goals of the hospital
  • Provide prompt and courteous insurance clearance service using your excellent communication skills with internal and external customers
  • Be a part of a team dedicated to supporting UW Medicine where Patients Are First

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
  • The UW Medicine Insurance Eligibility and Counseling Services Department (IECS) functions in assisting patients to apply for appropriate funding/insurance; obtaining and verifying the insurance coverage and benefits for facility and professional services, which may include emergency services, inpatient hospitalization, transportation, rehab, therapies, nursing home placement, home health care/durable equipment, outpatient surgeries, clinical visits, and specialized procedures; also with application and verifying L&I, Crime Victims and other coverages.
  • Our team values excellent customer service, timely response, accurate authorization, and courteous processing of calls

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Schedule patients and determine appropriate financial assistance opportunities
  • Manage all aspects of UW Medicine's Financial Assistance front-desk processes
  • Appropriately access patient's needs and potential funding
  • Document the progress of each case in Epic notes
  • Act as a liaison to the billing department
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights
  • Accesses and uses the minimum necessary patient identifiable information to perform job responsibilities and duties for authorized purposes only

REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • One year of experience in a medical office setting
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements
