What Is a Patient Accounting Representative?

A patient accounting representative is in charge of all patient accounting activities. Location: Wailuku, HI (Hybrid - Partially Remote)
Pay Rate: Up to $ 26.00/hour
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM HST

LHH Recruitment Solutions is seeking a Patient Accounting Representative to support healthcare billing and collections operations in Wailuku, Hawaii. This is a hybrid role requiring partial onsite presence.
Key Responsibilities
  • Process insurance claims, reports, and billing in accordance with state and federal regulations
  • Contact no-fault and workers' compensation payers to obtain claim status
  • Review accounts and determine next steps, including appropriate write-offs when necessary
  • Contact patients to verify insurance and demographic information
  • Research account history and take appropriate follow-up action with payers and patients
  • Prepare billing documents, adjustments, and supporting documentation
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all account activity
  • Communicate professionally with insurance carriers, providers, and patients to support timely reimbursement
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in medical billing, insurance claims processing, or collections
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple accounts and prioritize work effectively
  • Proficiency with standard office systems and basic computer applications
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using EPIC or similar healthcare billing systems
  • Healthcare collections experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, billing codes, and insurance processes
  • Candidates located in the State of Hawaii strongly preferred
Work Environment
  • Hybrid work model (partial remote, partial onsite)
