What are partnerships in a business context?

Partnerships in a business context refer to collaborative relationships between two or more organizations or individuals who work together to achieve common goals. These alliances can involve sharing resources, expertise, or market access to drive growth, expand reach, or create new opportunities. Partnerships can take many forms, such as strategic alliances, joint ventures, or affiliate agreements, and are often formalized through contracts outlining the roles and responsibilities of each party. Successful partnerships are built on trust, clear communication, and mutual benefit.

Partnerships professionals frequently work cross-functionally, collaborating with teams such as marketing, sales, product development, and legal to ensure successful partnership execution. To thrive in a Partnerships role, you need strong relationship-building abilities, strategic thinking, and a background in business, marketing, or a related field. Job description

The Opportunity
Your car and your home are your most important assets, yet the experience of owning them is stuck in the 90s. Every part of the journey - insurance, repairs, financing, maintenance - is fragmented, complicated, and expensive. Jerry.ai is building the first app to manage it all.
We started with car insurance in 2019, became one of the top three brokers in the country, then added driving insights, diagnostics, and a repair marketplace. We've reached 5M+ customers, raised $240M+, scaled revenue 70X, and became profitable in early 2024.
The next chapter is expanding beyond cars into home, motorcycle, and other physical assets. That expansion relies on growing our partnerships with insurance carriers, product providers, and distribution partners. The problem is that the most valuable partners are the hardest to land. They're large, they move slowly, and they require complex deal structuring. Getting them across the line requires creativity, persistence, and sharp judgment about what to offer, how to frame it, and when to push.
That's what you'll own: the end-to-end partnerships motion for Jerry's new product lines including building the pipeline, structuring the deals, and making sure the partners we land succeed. And if you're successful, Jerry grows faster and serves customers better across every product we offer.
Why You Will (Or Won't) Like Working Here
  • No playbook: For our newer verticals - home, motorcycle, and adjacent products - the partnership model is still being defined. You'll be scoping what to build, not executing a proven formula.
  • Complex deals & long cycles: You'll work on complex deal structures that take months to close. And many won't close at all. This role requires someone with an analytical mind, strong judgment, and persistence.
  • Heavily cross-functional: We're a lean and flat org. You will likely work across product, engineering, data science, legal, finance, and executive leadership on every deal.

What You'll Own
We're looking for a scrappy Business Development / Partnerships Lead to grow the supply side of our marketplace and to open the partnerships that unlock our next lines of business. This role reports directly to the Vice President of Partnerships.
  • Build and run the partnerships pipeline for Jerry's new product lines, from initial outreach through signed agreement and successful onboarding.
  • Lead insurance carrier and partner conversations independently - qualifying partner fit, understanding what each partner needs, structuring the right value proposition for each, and running the process to close.
  • Design creative deal structures for partners who won't fit a standard path. If the obvious approach gets a no, you figure out what alternative arrangement unlocks the relationship.
  • Own partner success post-close - work with internal teams to make sure new partners ramp, stay engaged, and become long-term relationships rather than one-time transactions.
  • Contribute to vertical strategy - your ground-level view of what partners will and won't accept feeds directly into how we sequence and structure new product bets.

Who You Are
  • Truth-Seeking: You verify before you conclude. You ask the question that surfaces what a partner actually cares about - including the thing they didn't say directly. You use what you learn to guide the team, not just yourself.
  • Creative: When the standard path is blocked, you find the non-obvious route. You generate new deal structures, partnership models, and go-to-market approaches that hadn't been done before you arrived.
  • Meticulous: You notice the data point a partner drops in passing. You catch the inconsistency in a term sheet before it becomes a problem. How you represent Jerry to an external partner reflects your judgment, and you take that seriously.
  • Builder: You break ambiguous problems into clear steps and personally drive them across the finish line. You easily flex between strategic and hands-on.

What You'll Bring
  • 5+ years in business development, partnerships, or strategy consulting with a track record of closing complex, multi-stakeholder deals.
  • Experience building 0-to-1: you've launched a new partnership category, entered a new market, or built a BD function without inheriting a working model.
  • Background that combines at least two of: consulting or structured problem-solving, BD or sales execution, early-stage startup operating experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage senior external stakeholders and navigate large partner organizations independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication: you can present a complex deal structure simply and credibly to an executive audience.

While we appreciate your interest and application, only applicants under consideration will be contacted.

Ranges are market-dependent and may be modified in the future. In addition to base salary, the compensation may include opportunities for equity grants.
We offer a comprehensive benefits package to regular employees, including health, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, paid parental leave, 401(K) plan with employer matching, and wellness benefits, among others.
