How much do part time appraiser jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 19, 2026, the average yearly pay for part time appraiser in the United States is $73,043.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $57,000.00 and $92,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges faced by part-time appraisers, and how can they be managed?

Part-time appraisers often face challenges such as managing a flexible but sometimes unpredictable schedule, balancing multiple assignments, and staying current with changing market trends and regulations. To address these challenges, it's important to develop strong time-management skills, maintain organized records of assignments, and regularly participate in continuing education. Additionally, networking with other appraisers and leveraging digital tools for report writing and data collection can help part-time appraisers stay efficient and competitive.

Can you be an appraiser as a side hustle?

Part time appraisers can work as a side hustle if they meet licensing requirements and have the necessary skills in property valuation and inspection. Many appraisers choose flexible schedules to accommodate additional work, but they must ensure compliance with industry regulations and client confidentiality. Balancing a part time appraisal role with other commitments is common among licensed professionals.

What does a part time appraiser do?

A part time appraiser is responsible for evaluating properties, assets, or items to determine their fair market value, but works fewer hours than a full-time appraiser. They may inspect properties, gather and analyze data, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Part time appraisers often work independently or for appraisal firms, and their schedules can be flexible to accommodate other commitments.

What is the difference between Part Time Appraiser vs Full Time Appraiser?

AspectPart Time AppraiserFull Time Appraiser
CredentialsTypically requires state certification, appraisal licenseSame as part time, often with additional certifications
Work EnvironmentFlexible hours, often part-time assignmentsFull schedule, consistent hours in appraisal firms or banks
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by appraisal companies, banks, real estate firms for supplemental workEmployed full-time by appraisal firms, lenders, or government agencies

The main difference between a Part Time Appraiser and a Full Time Appraiser lies in work hours and commitment. Part Time Appraisers typically work flexible, reduced hours, often supplementing income, while Full Time Appraisers work regular hours with more responsibilities. Both roles require similar credentials and certifications, but the employment scope and schedule differ.

What type of appraiser makes the most money?

Certified residential appraisers generally earn less than commercial appraisers, who evaluate larger and more complex properties. Commercial appraisers often have higher salaries due to the specialized skills, certifications, and experience required for commercial property valuation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Appraiser, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Appraiser, you need a background in property valuation, analytical skills, and typically a state license or certification. Familiarity with appraisal software, property databases, and local MLS systems is essential for accurate and efficient assessments. Strong attention to detail, organization, and effective communication help build credibility and trust with clients. These skills and qualities ensure precise appraisals, compliance with industry standards, and successful client interactions.

Can you become an appraiser part-time?

Yes, a part-time appraiser can work flexible hours and may need to obtain specific licensing or certification depending on the type of appraisal work. Many appraisers work part-time to supplement other income or as they build experience in the field.

Will AI replace appraisers?

Part-time appraisers perform property evaluations that require judgment, inspection, and understanding of local market conditions. While AI and automation tools can assist with data analysis and valuation models, they are unlikely to fully replace the expertise and on-site assessments provided by human appraisers in the near future.
