Job description

Mail Processing Center Clerk I

The Mail Processing Center Clerk I is responsible for processing, receiving, sorting, distributing, picking up, and delivering company mail and packages for the enterprise. This role reports to the Mail Processing Center Team Lead and ensures mailing machines are operating sufficiently, mail and packages reach their destinations in a timely manner, and that document flow runs smoothly for the organization.

Job Functions:

  • Receives, sorts, and opens (when required) mail daily to include:
    • Organizes mail according to business unit (recipient).
    • Payments and checks given to MPC Payment Processors.
    • Tax bills and correspondence given to MPC Tax Research Clerks.
    • Identifies and processes customer correspondence for imaging.
    • Receives, sorts and sends all outgoing mail and packages via USPS, FedEx, and UPS.
    • Completes daily mail routes throughout the office for mail pick up and drop off in mail service locations.
    • Researches, identifies, and updates all returned mail based on individual team policies using the AS400 for customer account access and updating addresses.
    • Provides special print job services enterprise wide for training and development, marketing promotions, laminations, and other needs as requested.
    • Provides FedEx administration services to all business units as needed to set up new user accounts and edit groups as necessary.
    • Sends weekly packages to all Home Centers, Home Building Group and Supply Facilities.
    • Prioritizes special projects as needed based on efficient shipping practices and department needs.
  • Provides Excellent Customer Service:
    • Answers calls regarding mail and tracking packages for the Retail Home Centers and Home Building Group teams.
    • Collaborates with special groups for deliveries as needed, such as: Aramark, Facilities, Technology, Lodge, etc.
    • Assists in trouble shooting lost or missing packages and mail.
    • Responds to emails from inter-enterprise team members as needed.
    • Provides service at the Mail Processing window located in the main hallway of the home office.
    • Provides postage and shipping labels as requested.
    • Print jobs, special letters and mailings sent to the work-from-home and extension-print email distros
  • Supports Vendor Services:
    • Works with third party courier as needed to ensure mail is received and ready to go out each day in a timely manner as schedules are determined.
    • Operates Ship Manager from FedEx to print weekly shipping labels for outgoing packages to Retail Sales Centers and Home Building Facilities
    • Organizes and sorts packages to be picked up by UPS and FedEx for daily pickup
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: No experience required; 0-1 year of experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills with ability to type at least 25 wpm.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently via phone, email, and person to person.
  • Capability of gathering facts accurately, analyzing causes, evaluating alternate solutions, and arriving at sound conclusions on action to be taken.
  • Ability to manage multiple and/or conflicting responsibilities.
  • Great attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50-75% of the time. Will walk throughout home office daily for mail services, frequency will vary.
  • Will be constantly operating a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a telephone, calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information at all times.
  • Must be able to identify and assess account status and determine appropriate process.
  • Will constantly work in a state-of-the-art indoor temperature controlled, sealed window office environment.
