The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization. 

We have an exciting opportunity for an intern on our Development Team. As an intern supporting our Affair of the Heart and Heart Ball events, you will play a key role in driving the success of these impactful campaigns. Your responsibilities will include a variety of tasks that contribute to the planning, execution, and follow-up of these life-saving initiatives.

Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week
  • Internship Duration:  9/8/26-12/11/2626
  • Location: Arlington, VA. In office: Tuesdays-Thursdays. Remote: Mondays & Fridays. Final schedule will depend on selected intern's availability. 
  • Salary: $23.00 per hour

Internship Outcomes:

Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to:

Event Planning & Support:

  • Assist with the planning, coordinating, and executing pre-event logistics, and on-site event management for multiple community events.

Event Participant Outreach & Engagement:

  • Conduct pre-event outreach to attendees of social events and conduct follow-up calls to past and current coaches/captains, top fundraising participants, and survivors to support participation.

Sponsor Support:

  • Assist with sponsor presentation preparation and gathering materials for sponsor follow-up after meetings, helping to maintain relationships with key stakeholders.

Data & Reporting:

  • Assist with pulling reports, data entry, and organizing event-related information to track progress and outcomes.

Administrative Support:

  • Assist with administrative tasks such as preparing printed materials, assembling thank-you cards, and organizing event supplies.



  • Candidates who are seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in business, communications, public relations, nonprofit fundraising, or event management.
  • Highly skilled with Canva. Basic Adobe experience.
  • Experience/interest in promotion, sales, or fundraising.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working professionally with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.
  • Effective oral and presentation communication skills.
  • Proficient in multiple social media platforms.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Basic knowledge of Canva.
  • Reliable transportation to and from Arlington, VA and occasionally off-site to other locations in Northern VA and DC.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future.  For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
