Job description

Position Purpose:
Position Purpose:
The Education Intern will work to prepare and facilitate a variety of educational programming, including field trip programs, homeschool days, schools out events, and various other events at Bonnet Springs Park. This internship will result in 120 total hours of work over the course of one academic semester, with an average of 10 hours of work per week.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with the BSP Programming Team to implement education programs for students in grades K-12 at BSP. Support the management and use of supplies required to provide high-quality education experience.
  • Ensure the smooth and efficient operation of all elements of education programming.

Essential Functions:
Facilitate and lead guided field trips for students in grades 2-12.
Support guided and self-guided field trips as needed for students in grades K-12.
Deliver interpretative programs and activities for adults, families, and children during homeschool days, schools out events, and various other education events.
Support the reservation and communication components of education programming.
Organize education supplies for upcoming events, keeping storage spaces neat and tidy.
Follow and relay complex oral and written instructions, policies, and procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
Education Intern Time Commitment:
BSP Education Interns should expect to work 10 hours per week over a 12-week period, for a total of 120 contact hours.
  • Available Shifts: Interns must be available each week for a minimum of two of the following schedules:
    • Monday: 8:00 am – 1:00 pm
    • Tuesday: 8:00 am – 1:00 pm
    • Wednesday: 8:00 am – 1:00 pm
    • Thursday: 8:00 am – 1:00 pm
    • Friday: 8:00 am – 1:00 pm

Qualifications:
  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree in science education, environmental science, recreational programming, or related field.
  • At least one year of experience working with school groups in grades K-12 in a formal or informal education setting is preferred.

Demonstrated Knowledge amp; Skills:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software. Ability to learn new systems and software that support the park’s education programming.
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills. Ability to interact and communicate effectively and collaborate with co-workers, community partners, donors, and guests.
  • Possess planning and organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to prioritize needs and follow through with tasks.
  • Meet and deal courteously with the general public.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team achieving common goals.
  • Ability to prepare a variety of reports and presentations.

Requirements:
  • Pass a background check and mandatory drug test.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable through the park’s insurance carrier.
  • Ability to endure five or more hours in an outdoor setting during various seasonal weather.
  • Must have good people skills and be comfortable interacting with guests of all ages.
  • Occasional weekend, evening, and holiday work in alignment with programming may be required.

Work Environment:
The work environment is widely varied and spans from quiet indoor office work to loud outdoor work in extreme weather conditions, primarily heat, rain, and humidity. The candidate must be able to adapt to these conditions quickly as transitioning from indoor to outdoor spaces will occur on a regular basis.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job include but are not limited to: regularly required to sit, stand, walk, see, hear, talk, drive and meet with others. Employee must possess conversational hearing, with or without aid, as well as adequate vision and ability to verbally communicate effectively. Additionally, employees must possess dexterity to operate standard office equipment, drive a golf cart, and have the ability to occasionally lift 40 pounds or more.
