We're currently hiring an Internal Communications Associate to support internal communications and employee engagement for a state government agency client in North Carolina.
The Team
The Internal Communications Associate will join ICF Next's communications team supporting a large, mission-driven state government agency. This team serves as a strategic partner to agency leadership, helping ensure employees are informed, engaged, and aligned with organizational priorities and the agency's mission.
The Work
In this role, you will help bring the agency's internal communications plan to life-supporting day-to-day execution across newsletters, announcements, onboarding materials, employee engagement activities, and recognition efforts.
You'll play a hands-on role in creating clear, timely, and engaging communications that reach employees where they are, celebrate their contributions, and help them stay connected to leadership, colleagues, and agency priorities. If you enjoy writing, organizing content, supporting events, and contributing to a positive workplace culture, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact behind the scenes.
Location & Work Requirements
  • Candidates must be based in the Raleigh, NC area
  • This role is on-site at least four (4) days per week in Morrisville, NC
  • Occasional flexibility may be required to support meetings or employee events

Key Responsibilities
  • Support development and distribution of the monthly internal newsletter, including content coordination, drafting, editing, and scheduling
  • Assist with planning and execution of internal meetings, Lunch and Learns, staff events, and employee engagement activities
  • Draft and distribute internal announcements and time-sensitive communications
  • Support new employee onboarding communications, including orientation materials and employee welcome messages
  • Assist with awards, recognition, and employee milestone communications
  • Help manage and update organizational charts, staff directories, and internal resources
  • Support internal surveys and feedback collection efforts
  • Track and report on engagement metrics such as newsletter open rates, event attendance, and qualitative feedback
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to gather content and ensure messaging accuracy and alignment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail
  • Experience supporting newsletters, internal emails, or content calendars
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Collaborative mindset with comfort working in a team environment

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field, or comparable professional experience
  • 3+ years of professional experience in communications, internal communications, employee engagement, or related roles
  • Ability to work on-site in Morrisville, NC at least four days per week
  • Must pass background check

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting internal communications for government agencies or other mission-driven organizations
  • Familiarity with employee engagement initiatives, onboarding programs, or internal events
  • Experience tracking communications metrics (open rates, attendance, survey feedback)
  • Comfort working with multiple stakeholders and approval processes
  • Interest in culture-building, employee storytelling, and recognition programs

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:
$55,400.00 - $94,180.00
