Kootenai Health is currently hiring a patient focused, compassionate PCU RN with a drive to provide exceptional care to those they serve.
About the Job:
  • Evaluates, plans, implements, and documents nursing care for an assigned patient population
  • Assists physician during examinations and procedures
  • Performs various patient tests and administers medications within the scope of practice of the registered nurse
  • Promotes patient's independence by establishing patient care goals and teaching patient and family to understand the condition, medications, and self-care skills
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
  • Competent to meet age-specific needs of the unit assigned
Team Highlights
The progressive care unit (PCU) specializes in treating medical and surgical patients whose needs are not serious enough for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) but too complex for regular med/surg units. Patients are treated for a variety of cardiac and other medical problems including dysrhythmias, myocardial infractions, stroke, organ failure, and patients who have recently begun potent drug regimens that require monitoring. As a staff member of the PCU unit, you operate between the basic level of general care and the highly specialized level of ICU care.
  • 33 bed unit that is growing to meet the increasing high acuity needs of our community
  • Staffing ratios of 3:1 for most high-acuity patients and 4:1 for all others
  • Opportunity to cross-train to critical care as PCU-CC hybrid RN after successful completion of fellowship program
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of a nationally accredited Nursing program required
  • RN with less than 3 years' patient-facing nursing experience at time of hire are required to be enrolled in a baccalaureate (or higher) degree program in nursing within 1 year of employment, with completion within 3 years of hire
  • RN with at least 3 years' patient-facing nursing experience at time of hire, ADN or diploma required; BSN or higher preferred
  • State of Idaho Registered Nurse OR licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the "multistate privilege to practice" compact with Idaho prior to start date
  • BLS Required
Working Conditions:
• Must be able to lift and move up to 35 lbs
• Must be able to maintain a standing position
• Typical equipment used in a clinical job
• Must be able to stoop, crouch, or bend
• Must be able to push, pull, or transport heavy equipment
• Must be able to assist in patient transfer
• Exposure to needles, blood and body fluids, etc.
