The City of Wichita is seeking a dependable and service-oriented Custodial & Event Setup Assistant to help ensure the library remains a clean, safe, and welcoming space for the community.
This is a physically active position that includes the regular setup and teardown of tables, chairs, and event equipment, staging furniture, and preparing basic audio/visual systems. In addition to supporting events and library programs, the role includes daily custodial duties both inside and outside the building, such as cleaning restrooms, emptying trash, sweeping, mopping, and maintaining entryways and public spaces. Custodial & Event Setup Assistant collaborate with library staff and interact with the public to help ensure events run smoothly and spaces remain in top condition.
This position is essential to the library's mission of providing a safe and engaging environment for lifelong learning and civic engagement. Success in this role requires reliability, physical stamina, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to public service. Work Hours: (THIS IS A PERMANENT PART-TIME POSITION) Monday - Friday 9:00am-1:00pm - This is a fixed schedule, and hours may need to be adjusted when events are booked outside of normal business hours.
Bargaining Unit: No Union Representation. **Posting may close at any time ** Examples of Work Performed Makes sets for events, which includes setting up and tearing down tables and chairs for meetings, programs and banquets; and setting up and taking down portable stage. Sweeps, mops, scrubs, dusts, polishes, paints and washes walls, windows, floors, and woodwork.
Dusts, polishes, arranges and moves furniture and equipment. Cleans rest rooms and replenishes supplies. Removes trash.

Requirements of Work Ability to lift up to 4 feet and empty containers weighing up to 40 pounds Ability to lift and move large, sometimes bulky objects weighing up to 80 pounds with the assistance of another worker Ability to push carts with twenty pound resistance Ability to climb and work on scaffolding Ability to work in a small confined space for short periods of time Ability to interpret floor plans for room sets Ability to shovel a ten pound load and lift up to four feet high Ability to bend, twist, turn, pull and stretch as required in cleaning and dusting windows, tables and legs, chairs and legs, doors, frames, stairs, and walls Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, representatives of other organizations, and the public Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing Demonstrates a growth mindset and continually learns new information and skills to best serve the public.

May require the ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace. Experience and Training Required Experience and Training Six months of experience in event setup, and custodial maintenance.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship. Preferred Experience and Training One year of experience supporting events in libraries, educational institutions, museums, or civic facilities. Starting pay for current City employees will be determined by City of Wichita policy or applicable bargaining unit agreement.
