BRIEF SUMMARY


The Director of Software Engineering provides strategic and technical leadership for the design, modernization, delivery, and long-term evolution of PrecisionCare’s software platforms. This role is responsible for setting the overall development vision, leading modernization initiatives, and ensuring the organization delivers secure, scalable, and high-quality software solutions aligned with business objectives. The Director oversees architecture, engineering standards, team performance, and delivery execution- while providing senior technical guidance and mentoring engineering mangers and senior developers. The Director partners closely with Product, Executive Leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders in the US and Canada to translate business strategy into technical roadmaps. A strong emphasis is placed on secure development practices, AI-assisted development, and continuous improvement of engineering processes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Strategic & Technical Leadership

  • Define and own the software development strategy and technical roadmap
  • Lead modernization initiatives, including legacy system transformation to modern architectures
  • Establish and enforce architectural standards, engineering best practices, and secure coding guidelines
  • Serve as a senior technical authority for complex design and vendor integration decisions
  • Ensure alignment between business priorities and engineering execution
  • Implement AI tools and engineering processes that improve development workflow efficiency, software quality, and delivery outcomes

Team Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead, mentor, and develop managers and senior developers
  • Drive accountability for delivery timelines, quality metrics, and technical outcomes
  • Build a high-performance engineering culture focused on ownership, quality, and continuous improvement
  • Partner with Product Management to refine requirements and balance scope, quality, and timelines
  • Provide accurate forecasting for capacity, delivery milestones, and modernization initiatives
  • Collaborate with AI teams across the Exa (Holdco) ecosystem to share and adopt best practices
  • Actively build, contribute to, and participate in the broader Exa (Holdco) ecosystem to accelerate innovation and technical alignment

Architecture, Quality & Security

  • Oversee system architecture for APIs, web applications, and data platforms
  • Ensure comprehensive unit testing, code review practices, and automated quality controls
  • Champion security-first development and compliance with healthcare relevant frameworks (HIPPA, HITRUST, SOC 2 Type @) and applicable PHI handling standards.
  • Reduce technical debt, improve system reliability, and minimize production incidents

AI-Assisted Development & Innovation

  • Define standards for effective and responsible use of AI-assisted development tools
  • Leverage AI tools to accelerate modernization, testing, documentation, and developer productivity
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption where they align with company goals
  • Ensure AI-generated code is reviewed, tested, hardened, and production-ready
  • Leverage AI to accelerate modernization initiatives and improve customer-facing product outcomes
  • Collaborate with AI teams across the Exa ecosystem to align on tooling, patterns, and best practices
  • Actively participate in and contribute to the Exa ecosystem to share learnings and influence future capabilities

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborate closely with Product, QA, Support, Security, and Executive Leadership
  • Communicate technical strategy, progress, risks, and trade-offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Represent Engineering in leadership meetings and planning sessions
  • Partner with internal & HoldCo stakeholders to align engineering practices, tooling, and innovation strategies using AI

Documentation & Process Improvement

  • Ensure systems, architectures, and processes are well documented
  • Continuously improve development processes, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices
  • Advocate for and implement engineering best practices across the organization

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Expert-level understanding of modern software architecture, APIs, and web technologies
  • Strong proficiency with .NET, Angular, SQL Server, and modern cloud-ready architectures
  • Proven experience leading software teams and large-scale modernization initiatives
  • Deep understanding of secure development, testing strategies, and performance optimization
  • Experience with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, Git, and release management
  • Ability to effectively leverage AI tools within engineering workflows
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong organizational, strategic planning, and decision-making abilities
  • Experience implementing AI tools and workflows that improve engineering efficiency and customer outcomes

PREFERRED

  • Experience modernizing legacy enterprise applications
  • Experience managing distributed or international development teams
  • Familiarity with containerization, cloud platforms, and scalable system design

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of professional software development experience, including 5+ years leading engineering teams (managing mangers preferred)
  • Direct experience building software in healthcare or another regulated environment, including hands-on exposure to HIPAA, HITRUST, and or SOC2 Type @ compliance and PHI handling standards
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
