What is a digital media analyst?

A Digital Media Analyst is a professional responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data from digital media campaigns to evaluate their effectiveness and optimize strategies. Job description

Job Description
General Summary:
About This Opportunity
Vertex is launching innovative therapies in our Kidney Business Unit, and we need a strategic digital media analytics leader to drive measurement, optimization, and agency accountability across our DTC and HCP marketing campaigns.
This isn't a typical analytics role - you'll be the trusted partner to marketing teams, the strategic advisor on media performance, and the quality gatekeeper for our agency analytics support. If you've successfully optimized digital media budgets, held publishers accountable for on-budget, quality audience acquisition and translated complex data into actionable marketing strategy, we want to talk.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
First 90 Days:
  • Assess current media plans and measurement frameworks to identify optimization opportunities
  • Establish credibility with marketing and brand teams as their go-to digital media partner
  • Take a leadership role with external digital media analytics agency oversight and performance

Year One Success Looks Like:
  • Marketing teams trust you as their strategic digital media advisor
  • Clear, actionable analytics deliverables that drive real optimization decisions
  • Agency partners are accountable and delivering measurably better results
  • Emerging opportunities identified and tested

Day-to-Day:
  • Partner with marketing and media agency teams to optimize paid media across search (SEM), social, display (programmatic, endemic, non-endemic) and online video (OLV)
  • Manage and elevate the work of external digital media analytics agencies
  • Analyze campaign performance using data and tools like Crossix, IQVIA, Clean Room, PowerBI and Marketing Mix
  • Translate reach, frequency, cost-per-acquisition, and audience quality metrics into strategic recommendations
  • Collaborate with Omnichannel Analytics, Brand Analytics, and Market Research teams

Knowledge and Skills:
Digital Media Analytics Expertise:
  • 5+ years optimizing digital media budgets and publisher performance - you know how to evaluate reach, frequency, cost-per-acquisition, and audience quality
  • Deep experience acquiring and measuring HCP and patient audiences through paid digital channels
  • Proven track record managing digital media agencies - you can pressure-test their work, hold them accountable, and drive better performance

Industry Experience:
  • Pharma or biotech background required - you understand the unique constraints, compliance requirements, and audience dynamics of healthcare marketing
  • Experience working with healthcare advertising publishers and platforms (endemic and non-endemic)

Strategic Partnership:
  • Ability to translate complex analytics into clear recommendations for marketing teams
  • Track record of earning trust as a strategic advisor, not just a data reporter

What Would Make You Even Stronger:
  • Technical skills: SQL, R, Python, or similar data analysis tools
  • Experience with data platforms like Snowflake or similar cloud data warehouses
  • Launch experience in pharmaceutical marketing
  • Familiarity with advanced measurement techniques (Clean Room, Marketing Mix, Test & Control, attribution)

What Makes This Role Special
High-Impact Launch Opportunity - Shape digital media strategy for new Kidney therapies from the ground up
Strategic Influence - You're not just reporting numbers; you're driving marketing decisions
Innovation Focus - Vertex's commitment to cutting-edge science extends to our marketing approach
Clear Mandate - Optimize, hold agencies accountable, and drive measurable results
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 8+ years of qualified work experience, including 5+ years in digital media analytics within pharma/biotech
  • Boston area location - Hybrid work model (in-office collaboration required)
  • Associate Director level - this role requires seasoned strategic leadership

Pay Range:
$157,800 - $236,600
Disclosure Statement:
The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. At Vertex, our Total Rewards offerings also include inclusive market-leading benefits to meet our employees wherever they are in their career, financial, family and wellbeing journey while providing flexibility and resources to support their growth and aspirations. From medical, dental and vision benefits to generous paid time off (including a week-long company shutdown in the Summer and the Winter), educational assistance programs including student loan repayment, a generous commuting subsidy, matching charitable donations, 401(k) and so much more.
Flex Designation:
