Job Summary

The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) School Nutrition is recruiting for an experienced Culinary Specialist. This positionprovidestechnicalassistanceto local education authorities in the specialty area of culinary applications for school nutrition programs and professionals. May oversee the supervision of certain job assignments in the program. Plans and organizes assigned activities to meet the objectives of the School Nutrition Division.

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing high level support for culinary project development and implementation
  • Training school nutrition professionals on culinary applications in person and virtually
  • Effectively presenting information in a clear manner,demonstratingprocedures, and responding to questions
  • Exhibiting knowledge of principles and methods for culinary curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and measuring training impacts
  • Reviewing and updating training content for consistency and meets defined standards
  • Assistingwith school nutrition specific culinary programs for students
  • Interpreting applicable Federal and State regulations and policies
  • Analyzing trends from a variety of program-related sources to improve culinary applications
  • Compiling information/data for use in special projects and/or in responding to inquiries
  • Assistingwith the organization of and coordination of training and technicalassistancerelated to the various school nutrition programs
  • Assistingwith special projects related to program needs assessments
  • Involved in professional affiliation(s); communicating andmaintaininga positive working relationship with the department and with local, state, and federal agencies; and collaborates with state and national allied organizations
  • Attends andparticipatesin national and state level meetings and professional development

Note: Statewide travel required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of abachelor's degree in culinary arts, food service management, hospitality, or a related field and four years of professional-level experience in school nutrition, education, or quantity food production
  • Culinary certification
  • Experience teaching student and/or adult learners
  • Experience presenting training in person and virtually
  • Experience with menu and recipe development for school nutrition programs
  • Experience with USDA programs
  • Professional-level experience in K-12 public school nutrition programs
  • Strong computer and technology skills

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university AND Five years of related experience ORbachelor's degree in culinary artsor a related field from an accredited college or university AND Seven years of related experienceORassociate's degree in culinary artsor a related fieldfrom an accredited college or universitywith 10 yearsof related experience.
