Job description

About the Role Working within the Cougars Athletics and Recreation Department, this is a flexible position whose work schedule is variable and may include an irregular schedule of not less than three (3) hours per shift and up to thirty-five (35) hours per week. Evening and weekend work will be required. The Promotional Assistants oversee all aspects of Cougars fan engagement on game nights including greeting fans, handing out promotional items, planning and executing half-time entertainment and supporting Calvin the Cougar (the MRU Cougars Mascot).

The Promotions Assistant may also support weekly promotional activities on campus leading up to games. Responsibilities Attend all home games for designated sport(s). Attend campus events as required.

Engage with fans and hand out promotional materials. Lead in-game promotions in front of large crowds. Distributing swag and merchandise.

Plan and execute half time entertainment, including greeting entertainment and ensuring the program begins and ends on time. On-site coordination of Name Your Game and Youth Fan Experience teams. Make recommendations on improvements to the game night experience.

Spot Calvin the Cougar as required. Pre-game set up and post-game tear down of all promotional items. Assist with social media (primarily Instagram) posts to promote events and departmental promotions prior to and on game day.

Assist the admissions team as needed, specifically on busy nights. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Able to stand/walk for extended periods of time.

Comfortable and clear speaking into a microphone in front of large crowds. Excellent communication and relationship building skills. Passion for engaging fans and supporting our varsity sports teams.

Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Ability to adhere to instructions and adapt plans with minimal supervision. Excellent customer service skills.

Knowledge of sports is considered an asset. Strong understanding of social media best practices, specific to Instagram. Experience speaking in front of large crowds is considered an asset.
