Job description

BASIC FUNCTIONS:
Under the direct supervision of the Senate Republican Fiscal Office Director, the Committee Assistant will work primarily on tasks that support Republican senators serving on the Senate Committee on Budget and Fiscal Review and on the Senate Appropriations Committee. This is a full-time, in-person position.
DUTIES:
The incumbent performs duties including, but not limited to, the following:
  • Tracking legislation that passes through the Senate Appropriations Committee.
  • Tracking and distributing budget-related materials for the Fiscal Office.
  • Coordinating, proofreading, and distributing budget reports and other written materials.
  • Coordinating with caucus staff and senators' offices to ensure timely, accurate, and quality work products.
  • Responding to inquiries from legislators, staff, and the public.
  • Maintaining office files, office supplies, and office equipment.
  • Answering office telephones; greeting visitors; and providing basic legislative information.
DESIRABLE SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE :
Strong oral and written communication skills and attention to detail are essential, in addition to proficiency with Microsoft Office (primarily Word and Excel). Familiarity with legislative culture and process is preferred, as is an interest in fiscal policy. Must be able to balance multiple high-priority tasks and exhibit maturity, good judgment, honesty, and professionalism.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced, professional environment; be self-motivated to work as part of a team on behalf of multiple senators; and work extended hours when necessary. Applicants must be organized, detailed, and able to work well with others.
High School Degree required. An AA or bachelor's degree is desirable. If applicable, please submit proof of degree with your application documents.
LOCATION, SALARY AND FILING DATE:
This position is located in Sacramento, CA and requires in person attendance .
The Senate's core business hours are 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and may require after hours or weekend work.
Final salary will be commensurate with experience and education. Seniority and significant experience are required to reach the higher end of the salary range.
