Job description
At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology.
Come be a part of what's next. The Open Connect Infrastructure Capacity Planning team plays a central role in ensuring that our members and internal customers consistently enjoy a seamless experience, achieved through the timely deployment and ongoing management of Netflix's owned infrastructure capacity. Our team is dedicated to the development of long-range capacity forecasts that are forward-looking, adaptable to rapidly evolving product needs, and focused on efficiency.
We collaborate closely with a diverse range of cross-functional stakeholders to understand their current and future infrastructure requirements and make strategic recommendations around product implementation and design. Some of our team's core responsibilities include: Development of Long-Range Infrastructure Capacity Strategies: Create forward-looking strategies that inform long-term financial planning, network design, and near-term deployment and implementation decisions. Effective Infrastructure Allocation: Convert demand forecasts across multiple products into clear, actionable capacity plans and strategic recommendations to drive investment decisions.
Balance infrastructure availability across product types. Data-Driven Analyses for Platform Optimization and Scalability: Conduct ongoing, data-driven analyses focused on optimizing efficiency, spend, and architectural direction while ensuring long-term platform scalability and resiliency. Risk Assessment & Management: Identification of potential risks related to capacity shortages or excesses and development of mitigation strategies.
Infrastructure Performance Monitoring: Continuous tracking of infrastructure performance and utilization to identify bottlenecks or inefficiencies. What You'll Do The Open Connect Capacity Planning team is a centralized group positioned at the intersection of business strategy and implementation. Our mission is to strategically recommend, build, and maintain the right type and quantity of capacity in the right locations and at the right times to ensure high-quality service, efficiency, scalability, and resilience for Netflix and our ISP partners.
The primary objectives include developing and executing infra capacity plans, providing technical expertise to leaders, analyzing data to inform capacity decisions, and driving long-term capacity roadmap planning. You will be partnering with stunning colleagues within Product & Technology Engineering organization to assess strategic initiatives, develop actionable insights, and drive operational analytics to inform short term and long term infrastructure strategy for Open connect. This is an individual contributor role that is expected to work with limited supervision on strategic thinking, problem solving, and running cross-functional stakeholder relationships and initiatives.
Some of your primary responsibilities include: Translate demand signals (including bandwidth, storage, and network capacity requirements) into actionable capacity forecasts, both short-term and long-term, to inform infrastructure investment and scaling strategies. Conduct what-if analysis and hypothesis testing to assess capacity impacts and trade-offs driven by specific demand signals and product requirements; present outcomes, insights, risks, and potential mitigations, and define key metrics to support strategic investment and prioritization decisions for leadership, finance, and Engineering & Architecture teams. Orchestrate the timely implementation and allocation of infrastructure augments in coordination with deployment and operational teams.
Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, Product, Finance & Strategy, TPMs, Engineers, and the Partnerships team to support scaling strategies for new product launches, especially those related to Studio Infrastructure. Develop requirements for modeling and automation tools, continuously evaluating and enhancing workflows, processes, and tools to minimize time spent on modeling and maximize focus on delivering impactful insights, storytelling, and business outcomes. Manage risks and help prioritize competing efforts among stakeholder and implementation teams by evaluating trade-offs, providing objective recommendations, and constructively pushing back when necessary, including asking whether the potential benefits justify the required effort and spend, to ensure informed decision-making that aligns with organizational goals and business priorities.
Who will be successful in this role. A deeply analytical individual who leverages quantitative methods, statistical tools, and massive datasets to guide capacity choices, utilizing scenario-based and hypothesis-driven models while maintaining objective skepticism in ambiguous situations. A forward-looking planner capable of modeling long-range requirements (5+ years) to ensure platform scalability and create proactive solutions for shared infrastructure across multiple products.
Someone who bridges a strong analytical background with sharp product intuition, clarity of thought, and strong communication skills to articulate and deliver on a long-term capacity vision. An action-oriented professional who works effectively and independently in dynamic environments to coordinate cross-functional efforts and drive initiatives forward rapidly. A cross-functional team player who thrives in collaborative settings, partnering smoothly with diverse specialists including engineers, data scientists, product managers, and business groups.
An excellent communicator who can distill complex concepts for varied audiences, switch contexts effortlessly, and align competing product initiatives to achieve optimal outcomes. A mindset that prioritizes rapid, iterative delivery over delayed perfection while maintaining high accountability for the final quality of the output. What you'll bring to the role At least 5 years of experience in infrastructure capacity planning for data centers or cloud platforms 10+ years of hands-on data analysis and visualization expertise with deep proficiency in SQL (knowledge of Python is a plus) Strong familiarity with or active curiosity about the telecommunications, internet ecosystems, and studio infrastructure Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Proficiency in AI tools A degree in Management Information Systems, Management Consulting, Statistics, or a related quantitative field - or equivalent hands-on experience.
We know great candidates come from a range of backgrounds and paths, so if you don't check every box above but bring strong, relevant experience, we still encourage you to apply. Why Join This Team The opportunity to have impact. Consequently, we're looking for someone with capacity planning experience who is strategic and also likes rolling up their sleeves.
