Capacity planners need to know the ins and outs of production. They often spend some time as production workers or working within adjacent departments like purchasing before advancing to Capacity Planner. Interested individuals will want to develop their management and communication skills along with their data analysis qualifications, as Capacity Planners are expected to interpret complex data and share high-level patterns with leadership. While post-graduate degrees are not often required for this role, some may opt for specialized certification programs to develop supply chain or purchasing expertise further.
