Job description

Job Title: Production Supervisor – 2nd Shift

Job Description

This long-term 2nd shift Production Supervisor role oversees a team of production employees while ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality operations. You will lead daily planning, coordinate production and distribution activities, maintain safety and compliance, and support continuous improvement initiatives. The position includes 5 direct reports, mandatory overtime during busy seasons with additional overtime compensation, and the opportunity to grow into a backup and ultimately the primary 2nd shift Superintendent.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day production operations on 2nd shift to ensure safety, quality, and productivity targets are consistently met.
  • Supervise and provide leadership to approximately 5 direct reports, including assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and providing coaching and feedback.
  • Plan and organize daily production schedules to meet production and distribution goals efficiently and on time.
  • Monitor workflow and staffing levels, adjusting assignments and resources as needed to maintain smooth operations under changing demands.
  • Ensure all employees follow safety procedures, company policies, and plant rules, and promptly address any unsafe behaviors or conditions.
  • Confirm that preventive maintenance (PM) tasks are completed on schedule and coordinate with maintenance personnel to minimize downtime.
  • Oversee product quality on the production line, ensuring standards are met and addressing issues promptly to prevent defects and rework.
  • Support training and cross-training of production staff to build skills, improve flexibility, and maintain high levels of competency across the team.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office tools, including Excel and Outlook, to track production metrics, communicate with other departments, and document activities.
  • Read and interpret tape measurements accurately to support production requirements and ensure proper dimensions and specifications.
  • Participate in and promote continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and Six Sigma principles to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Work effectively under pressure during peak seasons, including mandatory overtime as required, while maintaining a positive and team-oriented environment.
  • Serve as a developing backup for the 2nd shift Superintendent role, with the expectation of eventually stepping into the full Superintendent responsibilities as needed.

Essential Skills

  • At least 5 years of industrial supervisory experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Excel and Outlook, to manage schedules, reports, and communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate tasks effectively and lead teams while working under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately for production-related measurements.
  • Ability to complete and perform forklift (FL) training as required by the facility.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience enforcing safety protocols, company policies, and plant rules in a production setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to motivate teams and maintain a collaborative work environment.
  • Willingness to commute for a long-term employment opportunity and to grow into a backup and ultimately primary 2nd shift Superintendent role.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $64000.00 - $80000.00/hr.
