Your responsibilities

Key Deliverables:

The Production Shift Supervisor serves as an engaged and trusted source in the organization. Success in this role is measured by increasing production while reducing labor hours and scrap. Key deliverables to ensure success are listed below:

  • Maintains a safe working environment by complying with all safety and environmental policies in the workplace. Advocates for and promotes a safe work environment by reporting Near Misses and/or other safety and environmental hazards, wearing all required PPE and encouraging others to do the same.
  • Has authority to stop processes to correct quality, safety or environmental problems, identify and place suspect product on quality hold, and to promptly notify Supervisory personnel when processes become noncompliant.
  • Manages the day to day requirements of production employees in order to meet Productivity, scrap targets, and customer requirements as defined in the operational performance plan.
  • Initiates and Maintains 6S workshops in cooperation with the respective SQDC Team and maintains established housekeeping standards for all work areas throughout the facility.
  • Facilitates training for specific needs of Production Personnel.
  • Works with the SQDC Team to create and implement Continual Improvement activities.
  • Initiates, documents, counsels, and coaches disciplinary actions for hourly employees.
  • Communicates a daily summary report and any special needs to Management.
  • Monitors and records performance and skill levels of hourly employees and compiles performance reviews.
  • Understands and promotes organizational policies and Mission Statement.
  • In cooperation with the SQDC Team, takes all actions and necessary steps to deliver quality products to our customers.
  • Coordinates and enforces the Company safety policies at the lines by demonstrating and promoting safe work practices in all activities throughout the facility.
  • In cooperation, the Production Shift Supervisor introduces new Work Instructions and line practices with training workshops, and maintains compliance to the Quality System requirements of the lines.
  • In cooperation with the Quality Engineer, the Production Shift Supervisor coaches employees in problem solving techniques and methodology such as 8-D.
  • The Production Shift Supervisor monitors and maintains established process flow patterns at the line(s) and within the facility.
  • The Production Shift Supervisor keeps records of any and all documentation pertaining to the Production Lines. Documentation required for preventative maintenance, changeover, and any other daily requirements. The Production Shift Supervisor not only keeps records of these documents but also supports related actions, if required.
  • Approves/ Denies vacation request forms for hourly employees and logs in the time keeping system.
  • Monitors and records attendance of employees. Coaches repeat offenders if needed.
  • Schedules with Logistics overtime for production personnel in coordination with customer requirements and Management approval.
  • Supervisory personnel have been delegated the responsibility and authority to add additional inspection steps necessary to ensure product quality when processes become noncompliant.
  • Trains and surveils adherence to requirements on documentation (shift reporting, SAP backflush, PM documents, complaint cards etc.).
  • Is able to perform checks on adherence to control plans and checks regularly with evaluating the results.
  • Works on closing audit findings, especially if they derive from internal audits (LPA, 6S/TPM etc.)
  • The Production Shift Supervisor regularly checks on completed operator PM task and whether all points are done right or not.

In an ever-changing fast paced environment, the Production Shift Supervisor is responsible to oversee Production employees while working together to increase productivity, reduce scrap, and support other key performance indicators. As a Production Shift Supervisor, you will lead by example, drive initiatives, and adapt to overcome obstacles with the change in demand. You will be empowered to make decisions that help drive positive performance and you will influence others through your leadership. Communicating effectively is an essential factor of success in this position as you are an integral piece to many departments. This position requires a strong commitment to safety.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position supervises non-exempt production employees. Carries out lead responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring recommendations, writing employee evaluations, training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; praising; participates in rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, a successful candidate will be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required along with four years related working experience in a manufacturing/production role. Associate's Degree in a technical or industrial discipline is preferred.
  • Language: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  • Technology: In order to perform this job successfully, an individual should have a working knowledge of the Windows OS, Lotus Notes, Maximo, SAP Integrated Business software, Microsoft Office Products, MS Project, MS Visio, PLM and MS Internet Explorer. Blue print reading is a must. Knowledge of automated equipment, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and Six Sigma is preferred.
  • Travel: Occasional travel, up to 10% including international
