Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Position Overview
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of activities in production area(s) to meet production goals, quality, and cost objectives.
  • Prioritizes production schedules based on product introduction, equipment efficiency, and materials supply.
  • Receives work assignments with general instructions.
  • Directs subordinates to achieve assignments using established guidelines, procedures, and policies.
  • Leads and interacts daily with subordinates and/or functional peer groups.
  • May interact with other area supervisors, internal customers, and functional peer groups at management levels.
  • Interaction normally requires the ability to gain cooperation of others, conducting presentations of technical information concerning specific projects/schedules, etc.
  • Provides immediate supervision to a unit or group of employees, assigning tasks, and checking work at frequent intervals.
  • A portion of time is normally spent performing individual tasks related to the unit or sub-unit.
  • Encompasses the direction and inspection of the performance of individuals or a team of associates who put together components to make assemblies, subassemblies, or completed units, or make or process raw materials into finished products in an industrial environment.

Job Duties and Essential Functions
  • Supervises and leads production operations teams 24/7.
  • Serves as a champion for safety culture.
  • Coordinates prioritization of product manufacturing and equipment troubleshooting needs.
  • Holds team of operators and shift technicians accountable to established metrics.
  • Essential Functions and key responsibilities include the following: maintaining equipment schedules, managing timecards, posting and filling overtime slots, addressing personnel concerns, communicating with all employee levels at the plant, and providing solutions to complex and dynamic problems.
  • Serves as incident commander for plant spill alarms.
  • This position is a key part of the plant leadership structure.

Job/Skills Requirements
  • High school education and 5+ years relevant work experience.
  • 4-year degree preferred in engineering preferred with a preference for chemical, materials , or mechanical engineering.
  • Effective communicator: peers, subordinates, and leadership.
  • Capacity to learn complex manufacturing process flow and/or systems.
  • Strong data analysis skills.
  • Inquisitive problem-solving skills.
  • High individual initiative and self-management.

Physical and Cognitive Demands
  • Must be able to see, hear, speak, and move about a manufacturing environment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Must be able to perceive heat and cold.
  • Must maintain a significant level of cognitive function to solve complex problems.

The range for this position is $79,166.00 - $108,854.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
