POSITION SUMMARY

The Development Operations Specialist is part of the Development Operations Team, providing critical administrative support to the Development Department for Greenpeace Inc. and Greenpeace Fund. This position will focus on processing high-value gifts and providing a high level of service to some of our most invested donors. This role collaborates across departments and with external vendors, as necessary. The Department Operations Specialist will be detail-oriented, with strong written and verbal communication, administrative and organizational skills and will demonstrate the ability to work independently on projects and also collaboratively across teams and departments. This position will exercise discretion in handling confidential matters.

The Development Operations Specialist is a full time, benefits-eligible, exempt, hybrid role based in Washington D.C, and is represented by the Progressive Worker's Union. This role reports to the Development Operations Manager. Please note this position requires in-person work from our GPUS DC office a minimum of three days per week to open and process mail and to send written acknowledgements, and will be required to work in-office and, at times, outside of normal business hours during heavy volume times, including but not limited to the last week of December.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising Gift Processing and Donor Communication:

  • Open and process fundraising mail, including the processing of checks for Finance and entering the data into the database.
  • Process all workplace giving gifts and applications.
  • Work with Major Gifts, Planned Giving, Foundations Fundraising, and other fundraising teams to properly process and record high-value donations including estates, IRA distributions, Donor Advised Fund gifts, credit cards, royalties, wire transfers, stock gifts, and other kinds of gifts to Greenpeace.
  • Ensure timely sending of Major Gifts, IRA gifts, and grant acknowledgments
  • Liaise with Supporter Care on mail-based donor communications
  • Research gift processing issues for donors and share findings with appropriate parties
  • Collaborate with team members on donor-related questions and gifts

Organization and Compliance:

  • Assist with managing the state charitable registration process for Greenpeace and serving as the primary contact for the external administrator.
  • Ensure all state charitable registration applications are executed accurately in a timely manner. Updates all relevant vendor contracts/budgets, etc as needed.
  • Assist with the management of Combined Federal Campaign process for Greenpeace Fund,
    • monitoring and reporting
    • creating and sending donor acknowledgments.
    • serving as the contact for the vendor relationship
  • Work with the Development Operations Manager to process charity rating applications.
  • Gift adjustments and maintaining up-to-date records in Salesforce
  • Processing Anybill invoices
ROLE REQUIREMENTSKnowledge and Experience:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a similar position, nonprofit organization preferred.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite
  • Prior experience working in a fundraising database, Salesforce preferred
  • Gift processing & data entry experience
  • Compliance and regulatory knowledge

  • Willingness to work during times of heavy volume, particularly the last week in December
  • Minimum 3 days per week in-person work required in our Washington, DC office location
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to spend extended time on the computer.
  • Occasional light lifting of materials may be necessary

This role is graded at a 2 and a salary within the range of $63,410 - $68,632 is anticipated to be provided to the successful candidate having met the minimum requirements for the position consistent with reflecting our commitment to maintaining competitive and fair compensation practices.
