As the Director of IT, you will play a key role in enabling AoPS to be successful and achieve its educational mission. In this role, you will lead an IT team which supports both our San Diego headquarters and AoPS Academy learning centers across the country. Please note that AoPS has a separate Engineering team which is responsible for maintenance of our website and web servers. This role is ideal for an IT leader with a penchant for project management and experience evolving the IT function at a fast-growing mid-size company.

The IT Director will:

  • Manage the IT team, including hiring, training, developing, supervising, and evaluating staff.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the IT department.
  • Develop, implement, document, improve, and audit policies and procedures related to IT department operations and company-wide IT security, data privacy, and data loss prevention.
  • Monitor performance and security of IT systems, and makes recommendations for improving the IT infrastructure.
  • Partner with key stakeholders across the organization to analyze business requirements and develop solutions for IT needs.
  • Monitor IT spending and ensures cost-effectiveness of IT solutions.
  • Lead large IT projects, including the design, deployment, and integration of new IT systems and services.
  • Assess vendors for new hardware, software, and tech support services and manages technology vendor relationships. This includes contract negotiation.
  • Oversee and administers company-wide software solutions.
  • Ensure tech equipment at HQ and AoPS Academy locations, as well as remote employee workstations, are functioning properly and supporting business needs. This includes AoPS Academy classroom technology.
  • Provide technical support for Tier 3 issues.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve employee-facing IT documentation.
  • Assure all IT activities are performed within the parameters of applicable laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Remain up to date with advances in technology and industry best practices.
  • Complete other tasks and responsibilities, as assigned.

The ideal candidate has:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 - 8 years experience in IT, including experience at the Manager or Director level.
  • Experience building out the IT function at a mid-sized company preferred.
  • Experience administering company-wide software solutions including G-suite, Clickup, Front, Zoho/LastPass, Slack, and Docusign.
  • Firm grasp on IT infrastructure and operations best practices.
  • Experience overseeing IT at multiple business locations, ideally including locations that are not in the same metro area as headquarters.
  • Experience with ISO 27001 compliance or similar preferred.
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills.
  • Dependable and results-driven with solid time-management and organizational skills.
  • Absolute integrity and confidentiality.

While our primary focus has been math for most of our history, through the years we have expanded our unique problem solving curriculum into more subjects, such as language arts, science, and computer science.
