Health Advocate

Essential Functions

• Monitors and maintains children’s records to ensure compliance with health and nutritional needs.
• Administration, monitoring and maintenance of COPA data system and children files, including but not limited to data entry, filing, physical dental notices to parents, etc.
• Conduct health screenings including vision, hearing, height and weight, and assist with dental screening.
• Conducting, reporting and follow up on monthly safety drills
• Participates and completes referral processes and follow up
• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Supports efforts to refer families for follow up medical and dental care.
• Maintains a variety of logs, and inventory of health and nutrition supplies for classrooms.
• Assist in obtaining a complete medical, dental and developmental history for each child.
• Conducts monthly safety checks of classrooms, playgrounds and physical environment and completes monthly reports and follows up as needed.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and be flexible to changes deemed necessary.
• Ability to educate teaching staff on children’s health and nutritional needs.
• Ability to work in an open, fast-paced, nontraditional agency under high pressure.
• Computer literate and comfortable with acquiring new technology skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
• Ability to have continual interaction with co-workers, parents, and children to provide information.
• Ability to frequently face deadlines with attention to detail and must complete tasks in a timely manner.
• Ability to travel from site to site per program needs.
• Open to continuous professional development.
• Provide training and presentation of health matters to small and/or large groups.
• Attend Health & Nutrition meetings, trainings and workshops when necessary.
• Other tasks as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

• Graduation from a recognized college or university with an Associate’s Degree with a concentration in Health and Nutrition or certification in related field.
• Any other combination of training and/or experience, which demonstrates that the applicant is likely to possess, the required skills, knowledge’s and abilities, may be considered.
• Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
