We are seeking a Sr. Vice President, Academic Affairs & Professional Credentials to strategize, lead, and create HI-specific curricula. This role reports to the CEO.


What does this role do at AHIMA?

The Sr. Vice President, Academic Affairs & Professional Credentials leads the academic strategy around the creation of HI-specific higher education curricula and is responsible for identifying higher education Healthcare Programs with which to partner and further the dissemination of HI curricula.

The incumbent leads the strategic evaluation, planning, creation, and implementation of workforce initiatives aimed at developing career support programs for future practitioners, leveraging economic development initiatives at the federal, state, and local levels providing opportunities for workforce training for employers and educational institutions.

This role creates on-going valuable partnerships with industry leaders to identify and plan for future competencies of the profession, leveraging higher education to deliver appropriate curricula.


What are the essential duties and responsibilities?

  • In collaboration with the SVP HI Career Advancement and the department of Public Policy, leads the collection and synthesis of legislative, policy and technological changes and their impact on the profession.
  • Leads the identification of opportunities for creating partnerships with higher ED institutions to include HI curricula.
  • In collaboration with the SVP HI Career Advancement, partner with academia to create agile curricula to satisfy future practitioner competencies.
  • Lead the analysis, synthesis and use of Labor Data, Dept of Education initiatives, trends in employer expectations, and the evolution of the healthcare landscape.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to lead the creation of resources to support individual career development.
  • Develop and implement the strategy of elevating AHIMA as the expert voice in HI.
  • Create the vision and strategy for the entry points and pathways for individuals to enter and grow within the profession.

What are the knowledge and skills requirements?

  • Minimum of 10 years in academic research, economic or community development.
  • PhD in a HI related discipline, education, etc.
  • Experience developing academic programs.
  • Current membership in AHIMA preferred.
  • RHIA or RHIT certification preferred.
