Summary

Estes Energetics is searching for an engineer to join our chemical manufacturing operations in the Colorado Springs area. The engineer will primarily be responsible for developing new chemical processes and designing and operating associated equipment. In this role, you will work under the guidance of senior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams to contribute to the success of our pilot plant in Colorado and our full-scale plant in Louisiana. This is a great career opportunity for new graduates as well as those with experience in chemical manufacturing.

Essential Functions

  • Work with the engineering team to develop technical solutions supporting the establishment of a pilot plant in Colorado and a chemical manufacturing facility in Louisiana.
  • This role would involve design of new manufacturing systems and components, leveraging both existing industrial processes and developing unique in-house solutions as required.
  • Assist with the design, construction, and operation of the chemical plant, including developing and testing prototype processes.
  • Identify and mitigate risks to ensure safe operation of the facility.
  • Present to stakeholders on topics such as technical project status updates.
  • Support the completion of projects safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Perform other aerospace, chemical, and defense research, development, and production projects as opportunities arise.

Competencies, Experience, and Education

Required
  • BS or MS in chemical, mechanical, electrical, or other relevant engineering field.
  • Hands on skills such as machining, prototype fabrication, carpentry, pipe fitting, electronics, etc.
  • Conceptual skills such as mechanical design, CAD, and facility design.
  • Interest in performing both conceptual tasks and hands-on tasks.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain State and Federal explosives licenses including:
  • Be 21 years of age or older.
  • Pass pre-employment drug test.
  • Pass State and Federal background checks.

Desired
  • Experience in chemical manufacturing or other manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with programmable logic controller (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), and associated automation systems, especially using Automation Direct products.
  • Experience with basic chemistry laboratory procedures.
  • Experience with facility design.
  • Experience with construction, either professional or personal.

Salary

60,000 - 110,000 Depending on Experience

Work Environment

The work will be primarily in office and manufacturing environments.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable sitting, standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Exposure to industrial machines, heat, cold, and explosives.
  • Frequent movement through a manufacturing environment.
  • Use of personal protective equipment appropriate to the work location.

Travel

5-15%, particularly to the Minden, Louisiana area.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Typical workdays are on a 5-day week. Employees are expected to work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status. Occasional overtime may be required during busy periods.
