Job Summary:

As an Assistant Food Safety Manager, you would report to the Food Safety Manager who will set the work schedule and ensure that the assistant has all necessary equipment and/or supplies to perform the job. Serves as a back up to the Food Safety Manager. This position will be based out of Croton Ohio. The Assistant Food Safety Manager will work with the Manger in ensuring that activities carried out at all the sites allow us to produce and deliver safe and wholesome product to our customers. This position works directly with the Compliance Team, Operations Management and Personnel, Safety Team, and Human Resources.

Essential Job Functions:

• Provides leadership, guidance, assistance and training to the Quality Assurance Team.
• Oversees the day-to-day functions of the QA team and is a resource for team members.
• Writes and distributes QA personnel schedules and maintains a staffing level that ensures that all quality assurance functions are completed on all processing shifts.
• Ensures adherence to food safety, GMP and HACCP programs through spot checks, observations, and routine inspections throughout the processing shift.
• Ensures that all products meet or exceed USDA and customer specifications.
• Assists in routine training of the QA team, as well as, onboarding new members.
• Maintains, verifies, and reviews all paperwork related to quality assurance and food safety.
• Participates in quality/food safety team.
• Assist in the investigation, resolution, completion, and documentation of corrective actions for operations, as applicable.
• Properly maintains all test instruments and supplies.
• Creates a working environment within the department that enhances employee performance and retention.
• Assists Food Safety Manager in the completion of documentation training and corrective actions, when necessary.
• Performs monthly calibration procedures and weekly GMP inspections at all sites to ensure compliance with our SQF Program.
• Assists Food Safety Manager in maintaining compliance to all internal/external quality, food safety and site safety policies, regulations, standards and procedures, as designated by Trillium Management Team.
• Assist in development, issuance and maintenance of all food safety and quality programs as they apply to the various layer sites and feed mills.
• Promotes a culture consistent with Trillium’s Guiding Principles and Core Values.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma Required
• Degree in a related field (Quality Assurance, Food Science, Biology, Operations Management, etc.) desired, or commensurate experience
• 2-4 years of experience managing personnel and programs preferred
• 3-5 years’ experience in similar processing environment, including food safety and quality assurance programs
• Working knowledge of food safety and quality assurance principles along with knowledge of state and federal regulations related to food production preferred (especially within eggs).
• Excellent communication (written / verbal) skills, organized, goal oriented, accountable.
• Team oriented and works well with management and co-workers
• Must be competent in the Microsoft Office suite of products. Must have good problem-solving skills.
• Ability to demonstrate results of "buy-in" and employee ownership of compliance programs.   
• Have a thorough knowledge of QA and Assistant Food Safety Manager job duties, policies and procedures.
• 11.Have a thorough understanding of SQF and be certified in HAACP
