Licensed Emergency Services Counselor

Work Schedule: Evenings, overnights, and weekends

Emergency Services is a round-the-clock response unit dedicated to addressing psychiatric crises, which involves promptly assessing individuals for immediate psychiatric intervention and issuing temporary detention orders (TDO) for those who require mandated treatment in a psychiatric hospital.

Within this context, the role of the Licensed Emergency Services Counselor is pivotal. You will conduct initial mental status assessments and deliver short-term crisis intervention services. You will also be crucial in making referrals or coordinating admissions to treatment services, ensuring that distressed individuals receive the necessary care. Additionally, at this level, the Emergency Services Counselor may be responsible for training or providing consultation to other counselors. This multi-faceted role is essential in ensuring the prompt and effective response to psychiatric crises, with a focus on assessment, intervention, and support. As a Licensed Therapist (LPC or LCSW) position at the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, you will provide clinical supervision to unlicensed therapists or graduate student interns within our agency.

Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in the human services field that fulfills the criteria for eligibility for professional licensure as a Licensed Profession Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the Commonwealth of Virginia and one (1) year of experience in a psychiatric care setting including counseling and crisis intervention functions.
  • Pre-admission screener certification training modules must be completed within 30 days of hire.

The selected candidate must successfully pass a criminal history fingerprint background investigation, DMV record check, Child Registry search, drug screening test and employment reference checks.
