Position Summary: Biomason is seeking a full time Controls Engineer, for our laboratory in Bording, Denmark. This position will be a part of our highly valued team in Denmark to support ongoing commercial operations, as well as with our corresponding technical teams in the US for any future new technology transfers from the US to Denmark. The Controls Engineer is primarily responsible for design, specification, commissioning, and support of prototype and industrial automation equipment and data systems at Biomason’s manufacturing partner site(s). This position reports to the Senior Manager, Systems Engineering and works collaboratively with R&D, Process Engineering, and External Parter/Integrator teams.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university

  • 3+ years of technical, experience in automated fluidic or conveyance industrial systems - Mechanical & Electrical

  • Experience with PLC software, remote IO, and other hardware such as analog process sensors

  • Experience with different programming styles including, but not limited to ladder logic, structured text, function block, and HMI design

  • Hands on experience with remote device networking via Ethernet IP

  • Hands on experience with variable frequency drives/motor controls

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Adaptable to changing company goals and directions, with the ability to shift tasks and projects quickly

  • Ability to understand and develop system P&IDs and other controls documentation such as IO maps and process sequence documentation

  • Demonstrates strong data collection, and documentation management

  • A strong team player who can self-manage

  • Comfortable working in a demanding, fast-paced environment

  • Excellent communication skills in English & Danish

  • Able and willing to travel for up to 35%

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Hands on experience with high and low voltage wiring and circuit design (24VDC to 480VAC), and PID control loops

  • Mechanical and Technical Fabrication skills

  • Experience in Python or other programming experience outside of PLC

  • Experience in Database design and management with SQL and structures such as PostegreSQL

  • Experience with serial communications both RS232 and RS485

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Designs, selects, manages, programs, and commissions automation equipment applied in prototype and manufacturing processes, including electrical systems and panels

  • Pursues on-going manufacturing process improvements, maintaining and repairing existing equipment and facilities applying detailed root cause analysis

  • Supports operations by making decisions according to real time data to ensure the process is performing as expected with troubleshooting and corrective actions

  • Researches, designs, builds, tests, and implements machines, instruments, controls, and/or robots, including developing and programming control systems and process monitors from scratch

  • Implement and maintain quality control methods, HMI, and SCADA systems to enable real-time data tracking for system/process evaluation. This Includes database setup and management

  • Partners cross-functionally with chemists, biologists, and engineers to develop robust processes to incorporate standard unit operations to meet stringent quality requirements

  • Works with R&D and Manufacturing teams to establish detailed design requirements prior to initiating engineering work, and reviews designs, layouts, and plans

  • Coordinate with outside services for controls component specification, design, and assembly
