Position Summary: 

Under the direction of the Principal, the MTSS Coordinator is responsible for the development of a systematic school-wide approach to Breakthrogh’s Multi-Tiered Support System (MTSS). The person in this position manages the MTSS process and docket at a school-wide level. The MTSS Coordinator  will establish and implement evidence-based strategies and systems that will help teachers achieve important outcomes for students by ensuring that student action plans are implemented with fidelity. Activities include convening MTSS meetings with families and faculty in a timely manner; coordinating classroom intervention programs for a range of student needs, including academic, social-emotional, and behavioral health; supporting accurate and consistent data collection on MTSS action plans; providing curriculum and instructional support to teachers including effective intervention strategies; guiding the process for determining when MTSS action plans must continue, adapt, or fade; and providing ongoing coaching for staff and teachers on the MTSS framework and research-based practices for tiered intervention.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

The MTSS/Child Study Coordinator is an 11-month position. Typical working hours are Mondays from 8:00am-4:30 pm and Tuesday-Friday 8:00am-4:00pm..  Responsibilities include the following:


  • Coordinate and facilitate the implementation of academic and social-emotional interventions for students who need support meeting course standards.
  • Uses data to identify students for Tier 2 or 3 intervention support.
  • Selects research-based strategies and techniques to support students individually or in small groups based on needs.
  • Assists teachers and instructional staff in addressing student learning using the MTSS framework; provides guidance on strategies, tools, and techniques to teach all students effectively.
  • Develops, documents, and maintains ongoing intervention plans in the intervention management system.
  • Maintains progress monitoring data on how students respond to intervention plans to make adjustments as needed.
  • Communicates with families regarding student progress and provides strategies families can use at home.
  • Based on a needs assessment, oversees the development of Tier 1, 2, and 3 intervention protocols.
  • Ensures effective classroom-level data collection, data analysis work, and MTSS Action Plan implementation.
  • Keeps classroom teams organized through a calendar system for family meetings, team meetings, and outcomes meetings.
  • Presents information on programs, services, regulations, etc., for the purpose of serving as a resource to school personnel
  • Maintains knowledge of current laws and regulations pertaining to individuals with exceptional needs through attendance at meetings, in-service programs, and conferences, and reading current literature.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field required, master’s degree preferred
  • Instructional experience in a public Montessori environment preferred
  • Experience working with diverse populations of students, parents, and families
  • Coaching experience preferred
  • ABAR training or background a plus
  • Montessori certification or background a plus


Required Competencies and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the MTSS model and how to implement interventions and monitor student progress
  • Knowledge of current research on academic, behavioral, and social-emotional learning (SEL) interventions
  • Experience working with and developing programs for diverse groups of students
  • Effective coaching skills
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and use data to drive decision-making
  • Experience collaborating and working with classroom teachers and assistants
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to our vision and mission
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills; ability to plan and track student progress and follow-up meetings on a continuous 6-week cycle


Working Conditions:

The working environment characteristics described represent those employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The position involves sitting, bending, standing, pushing, and reaching with both hands/ arms as necessary and may require some lifting up to 40lbs. In addition, routinely uses standard office equipment.
