Job Description: The Plumber is responsible for general plumbing and assorted duties necessary to maintain, repair, or upgrade all housing facilities and structures. The incumbent will be performing service call and preventative maintenance of Military Housing facilities which will require direct communications with Military Housing residents, Government and company quality inspectors.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to diagnose system problems and provide necessary repair actions
  • Employee will be required interact with the residents to determine the root cause of the
    problem and inform them of the corrective actions being taken
  • This position utilizes written service orders or individual work orders to identify the type of problem, and location for the required service. The employee is required to complete the service or work order paperwork once the work is completed and to turn them into the service desk at the end of the shift. If issues arise during the service the employee will communicate via cell phone to the service desk for further direction
  • Performs scheduled preventative maintenance actions that are required by this contract
  • Performs a variety of plumbing trade functions such as the installation, maintenance, or repair of pipe and pipefittings and fixtures, water, hot water systems and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing code
  • Cuts openings in walls, floors, or ceilings to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings. Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals such as iron, steel, copper and lead and nonmetals such as glass, vitrified clay and plastic by using power and hand tools
  • Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, bathtubs, water heaters, as well as broken or ruptured pipes
  • Opens clogged drains by the use of plumbing snakes or other environmentally safe measures
  • Interprets building plans and working drawings to determine system installation or for
    diagnosing operating problems. Inspects drawings and the structures to as certain obstructions to be avoided during repair and to prevent structural code violations during repair or installation of new piping or equipment
  • Ensures full compliance and displays full understanding with all Federal and Local building codes as they pertain to this trade
  • Cuts and threads pipe, using pipe cutters and threading machines
  • Follows established safety procedures and utilizes safety protective equipment and clothing pertaining to particular trades or skills
  • Ensures proper housekeeping practices are observed
  • This position requires the employee to periodically work swing and weekend shifts on a
    scheduled basis or to be on-call should a situation arise
  • Will be scheduled for an on-call status periodically with other technicians to respond to call-outs after normal working hours as needed
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • General knowledge of hand and power tools
  • General knowledge of maintenance and construction methods
  • Knowledge of planning and layout of work from blueprints, drawings and models
  • Ability to read, speak, and write English

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Plumbers Journeyman's certification
  • Possession of a driver's license with acceptable driving record
  • Ability to obtain access to U.S. Government Installations through the Defense Biometric
    Identification System (DBIDS)

Work Conditions:
The employee is regularly required to talk and hear to understand instructions, provide information and respond to safety warnings. Work conditions require the employee to stand; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; taste or smell; and work on scaffolding and ladders. The employee may frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance and lift and/or move heavier objects with assistance.
