Job Description
Quality Assurance & Food Safety Manager Description: The QA/FS Manager will provide strategic direction, leadership, and ownership of the Food Safety, Quality, and Sanitation programs. The QA/FS Manager supports food safety for new products, including leading studies to assess product stability, shelf-life and extended run validations and have in-depth knowledge of Sanitary Design Principles and effective Sanitation Programs. A self-motivated individual who possesses and demonstrates characteristics that include a mindset of ownership and accountability. Cross-functional team leadership is a critical element of success and includes effective relationship development with Sanitation, Sales, Operations, Engineering, R&D, Finance, Customer Service, Logistics, Legal, and other departments across the organization. This position reports to Plant Manager with dotted line to Food Safety/Quality Systems DirectorDirect management and development of quality, laboratory, and sanitation staffBe a champion of continual improvement and process simplification.Increase capability of plant quality and laboratory staff through development and trainingAs a member of the Plant Leadership Team, influence plant leadership to ensure all quality programs and systems are implemented effectively.Coach/develop all plant leaders regarding quality and statistical tools.Report events/status/progress to Plant Manager and the Quality Director in a timely and effective mannerExecute and manage Food Safety, Quality & Sanitation training at local site.Development of internal talent for quality and operationsCommunication of ideas/technical information in an easily understandable wayAssessment of risk and appropriate/timely communication of risk___________________________________________________________________________________Be visible and approachable by all levels of team members; mentoring and coaching.Achieve through teamwork, lead through influence. Respected by peers and respects others.Plans in the open and invites others to respectfully disagree.Deploys the tenants of Bama s culture of caring and accountability.Works collaboratively and effectively with othersUtilizes EQ tools.Brings joy and trust to the workplace.Demonstrates an ability to communicate clearly to all levels of the organization.Commit to act like an owner in all decisions!Creates & maintains collaborative partnerships, leading with whole-hearted courage, and creating a win/win environment for our business & stakeholders.Education/Certification Requirements:Bachelor of Science degree in Food Safety, Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, biology related discipline, or approved related field.Minimum 4-6 years of food manufacturing experience (USDA, Produce, etc.)Ready-To-Eat food manufacturing experience is desirable.Experience with FDA and/or USDA Rules and RegulationsPCQI/Internal Audit certified.CFS Sanitation Essential and Hygienic Design Certification.Previous Management experienceRequired Skills:Demonstrate the ability to solve problems.Encourage a win/win team environment where everyone is heard equally.Available to travel to customer locations when necessary.Communicate effectively in verbal and written form.Provide leadership in strategic planning and prioritization.Promote, embrace, celebrate, and champion diversity.Ability to connect/influence local plant management and plant workforce to drive a World class Quality CultureAbility to oversee the management and improvement of Quality Management Systems including documentation, control and adherence to all FDA, USDA, and customer driven regulations.Proven skill and ability to manage day to day quality with review of quality records, SPC compliance and provides direction for plant and product continuous improvement.Ensures that all aspects of HACCP/Food Safety plan development, documentation and control are in place.Ability to develop, implement and control QA and Sanitation budgets.Ability to identify and drive QA, FS, and Sanitation Capital projects and expenditures.Controls and manages the review of supplier issues with system to ensure rapid follow up on issues
