Job Description

General Purpose of Job

Help manage all areas of the kitchen as needed or designated by the executive sous chef, executive chef, or corporate chef and take the place of the executive sous chef or executive chef when he/she cannot be present in the kitchen.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Uphold the high standards of 24 Carrots’ handbook and policies

  3. Maintain order, discipline, safety, and organization in the kitchen
  4. Manage all non-supervisory positions in kitchen department
  5. Ensure all cooks stay on task and work effectively
  6. Maintain order and discipline with the cooks
  7. Conduct disciplinary action when necessary
  8. Requires an understanding of federal, state, and local kitchen health and safety standards
  9. Responsible for compliance with industry food safety standards
  10. Maintain and supervise a clean and sanitary working environment
  11. Ability to work with special food handling requirements for certain dishes such as vegan or gluten-free
  12. Ensure that all food and products are consistently prepared and served according to the restaurant’s recipes, portioning, cooking and serving standards
  13. Read and understand all banquet event orders
  14. Help with prep
  15. Oversee tastings
  16. Order produce when needed
  17. Help organize and oversee social prep cooks and ensure food meets 24 Carrots’ standards
  18. Fill in for all kitchen positions wherever help is needed
  19. Responsible for checking out lead chefs for events and ensure they have all food items/equipment and how to prepare and serve them.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervise kitchen staff members. Carry out supervisory duties in accordance with 24 Carrot’s policies, handbook, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include overseeing and directing employees as well as addressing complaints and solving problems. Accomplishes staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.

  13. Must possess a current California Food Handler’s card.

Education and/or Experience

  1. Two to four years related experience and/or training
  2. California Food Handler’s card required within 30 days of hire
  3. Reliable transportation and clean driving record required.

Language Skills

  1. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  2. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  3. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

  1. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  2. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

  1. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  2. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  3. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, but there will be cases where the noise level is extremely loud.
  4. This position occasionally requires work that exceeds 40 hours per week and occasionally requires flexibility to start shift earlier and end shift later on little to no notice.
