Job description

Description
The Data Science Institute in the Physical Sciences Division at the University of Chicago invites applications for Clinical Professor (open-rank) to teach in its MS in Applied Data Science program. Appointments will be made as Assistant Clinical Professor, Associate Clinical Professor, or Full Clinical Professor, depending on qualifications. This full-time, benefits-eligible appointment is for an initial term of up to five years, with possibility of renewal. This is a teaching position with no research responsibilities and some administrative duties. The position is expected to begin in the 2026-2027 academic year.
The person holding this position must be able to teach at least two of the following courses: Statistical Models, Time Series, Big Data and Cloud Computing, Data Engineering, Leadership and Consulting for Data Science, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, Human Computer Interaction, Quantum Computing, Swarm Intelligence, Advanced Computer Visualization, Natural Language Processing, or Bayesian Inference. An overview of the MS in Applied Data Science course offerings can be found at datascience.uchicago.edu/masters-programs. Depending on background and interests, the person holding this position may also be asked to teach other classes in the MS in Applied Data Science program.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A PhD in Data Science, Applied Math, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or other closely related field, and at least 2 years of professional experience,
  • OR an MS/MBA with at least 5 years of professional experience in Data Science, Applied Math, Statistics, Computer Science Mathematics, or other closely related field.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Teaching experience either within a university (such as Adjunct, Lecturer, or Instructional Professor), or corporate training environment for professional education.
  • Experience teaching for an online program.
