The Center for Urban Community Services, a national leader in the development of effective housing and service initiative for homeless people, invites applications for Program Director position at its Intensive Mobile Treatment (IMT) program.
Intensive Mobile Treatment (IMT) teams provides comprehensive, flexible, and responsive mental health care directly in the community. This approach involves a multidisciplinary team delivering services such as psychiatric care, therapy, and case management outside of traditional clinical settings, often in the homes or local environments of individuals. IMT teams are designed to support individuals with severe and persistent mental health conditions, offering tailored interventions and crisis management to enhance stability, promote recovery, and integrate individuals into their communities effectively. The mobile nature of the team allows for immediate and personalized support, addressing needs in real-time and promoting better engagement and outcomes.
Responsibilities, include but are not limited to:
The Program Director (PD) is responsible for the clinical, operational, and administrative oversight of an Intensive Mobile Treatment (IMT) program (2 teams, 27 participants each, 54 total, 16 staff) serving individuals with serious mental illness and highly complex behavioral health needs across all five boroughs of New York City. IMT provides the highest intensity level of outpatient mental health services and serves individuals who have often not been successfully engaged by traditional treatment programs.
This is a hybrid /field leadership role requiring consistent in-person engagement with participants, staff, providers, hospitals, shelters, housing partners, and community-based systems. The Program Director is expected to maintain a strong field presence while also overseeing day-to-day program operations and clinical decision-making.
Position Expectations
- This position requires regular travel throughout all five boroughs of New York City.
- The Program Director is expected to work both in the field and in the office. While schedules may vary based on program need, the PD is typically in the field 2 days per week and in the office approximately 2 days per week. We aim to give them 1 remote day, but this does not always happen.
- The team operates within a flattened hierarchy model, meaning clinical and operational decisions are made collaboratively, with all team members contributing input regarding treatment planning, team functioning, and professional boundaries.
Population Served:
The IMT program serves individuals with serious mental illness who present with:
- Complex trauma histories
- Histories of violence or aggressive behaviors
- Significant behavioral challenges
- Co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions
- Frequent system involvement and service disengagement
- Histories of being misdiagnosed or unsuccessfully served by other programs
- The acuity and complexity of the population require intensive clinical oversight, strong risk assessment skills, and consistent collaboration among team members and leadership.
Core Responsibilities
Clinical and Program Oversight
- Provide clinical, operational, and administrative leadership to the IMT team.
- Maintain active involvement in day-to-day program operations due to the high acuity and complexity of the participant population.
- Oversee clinical interventions, crisis response, risk management, and treatment planning.
- Ensure staff adherence to clinical treatment plans, safety protocols, and documentation standards.
- Closely monitor daily team email communications and updates to support staff safety, continuity of care, and coordinated service delivery.
- Support the development of a cohesive, accountable, and collaborative team culture
Requirements
REQUIRED:
- LCSW or LMHC
- Minimum of 5 years applicable experience with related populations in human services organization.
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory/management IN HUMAN SERVCIES, PUBLIC HEALTH OR SOCIAL SERVCIES
- Excellent outreach, assessment, written and verbal communication skills
- Computer literacy
- This is a field based position. Must be able to travel to between the 5 boroughs
PREFERRED:
- Experience in fieldwork, mobile treatment, crisis intervention and mental health treatment.
- Bilingual Spanish/English
