Job Description
Would you like to directly help veterans in their search for employment?
Our Veteran Workforce Consultant serves within the Employment Services (ES) division. ES programs improve the functioning of the labor market by bringing together individuals who are seeking employment and employers who are seeking workers. The SC Works system provides jobseekers with career guidance, job referrals, assessments, and résumé assistance. Free tools to assist employers include posting job openings, recruiting and screening candidates, and reviewing job market trends. South Carolina's 12 local workforce development boards administer the SC Works Centers throughout the state.
The Veteran Workforce Consultant is in the Employment Services division in the Upstate Region. The role performs customer focused case management and career planning to identify barriers to employment and develop solutions for clients. The consultant will conduct needs assessments, assist with the development of individual employment plans, provide focused services, and educate individuals regarding DEW programs, policies, and services. This role will also provide assistance with all services as needed within an SC Works Center.
This position requires scheduled travel to the following counties: Spartanburg, Cherokee and Union.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct needs assessments and assists in developing Individualized Employment Plans.
  • Provide career counseling, work search activities, and skill advancement information.
  • Assist with ES programs like Wagner-Peyser, TAA, MSFW, and Veteran Services Program.
  • Greet customers, perform initial assessments, and refer them to appropriate programs.
  • Review Veteran Intake forms and schedules comprehensive assessments.
  • Provide Workforce services operated by SC DEW in SC Works Centers.
  • Refer work ready clients to Business Consultants and notify them to jobs posted through SC Works.
  • Develop relationships with community resources for seamless referrals.
  • Provide ongoing support to SC Works Centers and all Workforce programs.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
Education and Experience
A high school diploma with a minimum of four years of experience providing client centered case management, counseling, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with at least three years of experience providing client centered case management, counseling, or a related field.
