What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Virtual Director, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Virtual Director, you need strong leadership, project management, and strategic planning abilities, often supported by a relevant degree and significant managerial experience. Familiarity with virtual collaboration tools (such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and project management software), and sometimes certifications in remote or agile management, are commonly required. Exceptional communication, adaptability, and emotional intelligence are crucial soft skills for building trust and guiding remote teams effectively. These skills ensure seamless virtual operations, drive team engagement, and deliver organizational goals in a distributed work environment.

How does a Virtual Director effectively lead and motivate remote teams across different time zones?

A Virtual Director typically leverages a combination of strong communication skills, digital collaboration tools, and clear goal-setting to lead remote teams effectively. Regular virtual meetings, transparent project management systems, and setting clear expectations help maintain alignment and motivation despite geographic dispersion. Additionally, fostering a culture of trust, recognizing achievements, and being mindful of different time zones when scheduling meetings are essential strategies for success in this role.

What is a Virtual Director?

A Virtual Director is a professional who oversees and manages aspects of a company or organization remotely, using digital tools and platforms. They perform leadership functions similar to those of an in-person director, such as strategic planning, decision-making, and team coordination, but operate virtually rather than on-site. Virtual Directors are increasingly common in businesses that support remote work or have distributed teams, enabling organizations to access executive expertise regardless of location. Their responsibilities may vary depending on the industry but generally involve leading projects, managing teams, and contributing to organizational growth from a remote setting.

Job description

OneSource Virtual (OSV) has helped more than 1,000 Workday customers take their teams from transactional to transformational with innovative technology and services for HR, payroll, and finance. Founded in 2008, OSV is the leading exclusive provider of Business-Process-as-a-Service (BPaaS) solutions for Workday, delivering services with unparalleled choice, unwavering commitment, and uncompromising support. Position Summary

The Director of InvoicePay Monetization is a high-impact, player-coach leader responsible for driving revenue growth through Virtual Card supplier enablement and other payment monetization strategies. This role is both hands-on and strategic - initially operating as an individual contributor while laying the foundation to build and lead a team of supplier enablement and experience professionals.

Working in close partnership with the VP of Financial & Accounting Services, this leader will develop and execute a payments monetization strategy that expands OSV's InvoicePay revenue, accelerates supplier adoption of Virtual Card, and creates differentiated monetization pathways across the client portfolio.

The ideal candidate blends deep commercial payments expertise with the entrepreneurial mindset to build something new. This is a role for someone who thrives in ambiguity, moves with urgency, and is energized by the opportunity to shape a growing practice from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities

Virtual Card Supplier Enablement & Experience

  • Lead supplier outreach and onboarding efforts to maximize Virtual Card acceptance and activation rates across the OSV InvoicePay client portfolio.
  • Design and own the end-to-end supplier enablement journey - from identification and targeting through activation and ongoing engagement.
  • Build scalable playbooks, communication frameworks, and enablement tools that will serve as the foundation for a growing team.
  • Track and report on supplier conversion metrics, activation velocity, and revenue contribution.

Product Diversification Strategy

  • Partner directly with the VP to develop a multi-year InvoicePay product diversification roadmap aligned to market opportunity, client demand, and revenue at scale.
  • Identify adjacent monetization opportunities within the AP automation and disbursement ecosystem.
  • Collaborate with Product and Technology to represent market needs and influence the payment product roadmap.
  • Influence and support VP and Product on emerging payment rails, fintech partnerships, and new revenue models to expand OSV's competitive positioning.

Team Building & Player-Coach Leadership

  • Operate as an individual contributor in the near-term while recruiting, hiring, and onboarding a team of supplier enablement professionals once proof of concept (POC) proves success.
  • Establish team structure, performance expectations, and KPIs as headcount scales.
  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of accountability, revenue obsession, and continuous improvement.
  • Report team performance, pipeline health, and strategic progress to VP leadership.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as the internal subject matter expert on Virtual Card monetization, supplier dynamics, and InvoicePay strategy.
  • Partner with Relationship Management, Sales, and Operations to identify expansion opportunities within existing client accounts.
  • Represent OSV in supplier conversations with credibility and strategic insight.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in commercial payments, AP automation, or fintech - with direct exposure to Virtual Card programs and supplier enablement.
  • 5+ years leading and building a team (s)
  • Proven ability to operate independently and drive results without a fully built team or defined playbook.
  • Track record of building programs, processes, or practices from an early stage.
  • Strong commercial instincts with experience influencing revenue outcomes through partnerships, supplier enablement, and monetization strategy.
  • Ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Proficiency with Salesforce or comparable CRM and reporting tools.

Preferred

  • Experience in a player-coach or team-building capacity within a high-growth or PE-backed technology or services company.
  • Background in Fintech, banking, issuing, or payment networks.
  • Understanding of payment operations and workflows.
  • Familiarity with AP workflow automation and Workday-integrated payment solutions.
