Virtual Director information

How does a Virtual Director effectively lead and motivate remote teams across different time zones?

A Virtual Director typically leverages a combination of strong communication skills, digital collaboration tools, and clear goal-setting to lead remote teams effectively. Regular virtual meetings, transparent project management systems, and setting clear expectations help maintain alignment and motivation despite geographic dispersion. Additionally, fostering a culture of trust, recognizing achievements, and being mindful of different time zones when scheduling meetings are essential strategies for success in this role.

What is a Virtual Director?

A Virtual Director is a professional who oversees and manages aspects of a company or organization remotely, using digital tools and platforms. They perform leadership functions similar to those of an in-person director, such as strategic planning, decision-making, and team coordination, but operate virtually rather than on-site. Virtual Directors are increasingly common in businesses that support remote work or have distributed teams, enabling organizations to access executive expertise regardless of location. Their responsibilities may vary depending on the industry but generally involve leading projects, managing teams, and contributing to organizational growth from a remote setting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Virtual Director, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Virtual Director, you need strong leadership, project management, and strategic planning abilities, often supported by a relevant degree and significant managerial experience. Familiarity with virtual collaboration tools (such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and project management software), and sometimes certifications in remote or agile management, are commonly required. Exceptional communication, adaptability, and emotional intelligence are crucial soft skills for building trust and guiding remote teams effectively. These skills ensure seamless virtual operations, drive team engagement, and deliver organizational goals in a distributed work environment.

What is the difference between Virtual Director vs Virtual Manager?

AspectVirtual DirectorVirtual Manager
Required credentialsOften requires advanced degrees or extensive industry experienceTypically requires relevant certifications and experience, but less advanced degrees
Work environmentOversees multiple teams or departments remotely, strategic focusManages specific projects or teams remotely, operational focus
Employer usageUsed in organizations needing high-level strategic leadership remotelyCommon in companies requiring remote team or project management

The main difference between a Virtual Director and a Virtual Manager lies in their scope and responsibilities. Virtual Directors focus on strategic leadership across departments, often requiring higher credentials, while Virtual Managers handle day-to-day operations and project management. Both roles are essential in remote work environments, but they serve different organizational needs.

Job description

(Growth Track Role - Built for Who We're Becoming, Not Just Who We Are Today)
Healthcare shouldn't be something you worry about when taking care of your family.
That's why when you join Redirect Health, your healthcare costs nothing out of your paycheck-and the same is true for your spouse and children.
  • No monthly premiums
  • No deductibles
  • No surprise medical bills

Most team members avoid tens of thousands of dollars in healthcare costs compared to traditional health plans.
This isn't a perk.
It's part of our mission.
Who We Are
Redirect Health exists to make healthcare affordable for small businesses and people who can't afford traditional employer insurance.
We help real people navigate a system that is often confusing, expensive, and frustrating-and we do it with empathy, accountability, and simplicity.
If you want your work to matter to families every single day, you'll find purpose here.
How We Work (Our Core Values in Action)
At Redirect Health, our values guide how we show up for each other, our clients, and our members.
We do our best work when we:
  • Obsess Over People - We are always helpful, friendly, and human
  • Own It to Completion - If we take something on, we see it through
  • Always Improve & Adapt - We learn quickly and adjust without ego
  • Start with "Yes, We Can Help You" - We lead with solutions
  • Succeed as a Team - We win through trust and collaboration
  • Detest Waste & Unnecessary Complexity - We simplify to focus on what matters

About This Role
Redirect Health runs a fully virtual medical operation - providers, RNs, medical assistants, and referral coordinators working together to give members fast, coordinated, high-quality care without the friction of the traditional healthcare system.
TheAssistant Director of Virtual Care Operations owns that operation end to end: the clinical and coordination workflows, the people who run them, and the systems that let all of it scale.
This is not a role designed for today's team size. It's designed for the team we'll have in two years, when our virtual care operation has doubled. We're hiring someone who can build the structure, leadership bench, and operating discipline now that will hold up under that growth - not just manage what exists.
We're looking for a high-level thinker with a clinical foundation: someone who understands healthcare because they've practiced or worked deeply inside it, and who also thinks like an operator and a leader of leaders. This is a role with a clear path to a broader Director/VP-level scope as the company scales, for the right person.
What You'll Do
In this role, you will:
  • Own the performance, structure, and scalability of our virtual care operation - providers, RNs, medical assistants, and referral coordinators
  • Build and lead a management team beneath you, developing supervisors and leads who can run day-to-day operations with autonomy
  • Design the org structure, staffing model, and workflows needed to support a team that is projected to double in size - not just patch today's process
  • Partner closely with Providers, the Contact Center, Claims, Client Success, and other teams to ensure coordinated, member-first care
  • Use data and operational metrics to identify systemic gaps - in referral turnaround, care coordination, provider experience, and member satisfaction - and drive the fixes
  • Standardize and modernize SOPs, training, and quality standards so the operation runs consistently as it scales across new markets or larger volume
  • Own escalations and complex cases that require clinical judgment, cross-functional coordination, or executive-level problem-solving
  • Represent virtual care operations in leadership discussions, bringing data, foresight, and recommendations - not just status updates

This Role Is Built For Someone Who
  • Thinks in systems, not just tasks - sees how today's decision plays out at twice the team size
  • Wants to build something, not just maintain it
  • Has the clinical grounding to earn credibility with providers and RNs, and the operational range to lead non-clinical staff with the same rigor
  • Is energized by ambiguity and fast growth, and brings structure to it rather than waiting for structure to arrive
  • Wants to grow into a Director or VP-level role and is looking for a company that will grow with them
  • Leads with empathy and high standards at the same time
  • Wants their work to matter - to members, to their team, and to the mission

What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred (healthcare administration, nursing, business, or related field)
  • RN license strongly preferred if no bachelor's degree; other advanced clinical licensure (NP, PA) or equivalent clinical leadership background will be considered
  • 5+ years of healthcare experience, with meaningful time in a clinical or clinically-adjacent setting
  • 5+ years of leadership experience, including leading other leaders (not just individual contributors) - managing managers, supervisors, or team leads
  • Experience in healthcare operations, virtual/telehealth care delivery, care coordination, referrals, provider relations, or a comparable large-scale healthcare operation
  • A track record of building or scaling teams, workflows, or processes through a period of significant growth
  • Strong command of data and metrics - comfortable using dashboards and reporting to drive decisions, not just review them
  • Excellent judgment and executive presence; comfortable representing the function to senior leadership
  • Based in the Phoenix, AZ area or able to reliably work in-person

Preferred:
  • Experience leading a virtual or telehealth-based care team
  • Experience with eClinicalWorks, CRM systems, or healthcare operations platforms
  • Experience designing org structures or staffing models to support rapid headcount growth
  • A history of being promoted into larger scope because of the results they drove
Why Join Redirect Health
What "Free Healthcare" Actually Means
When we say free, we mean no money out of your paycheck and no cost when you need care:
  • No monthly premiums
  • No cost to add your spouse or children
  • No deductibles (we reimburse them)
  • No out-of-pocket maximums

This benefit alone can save families tens of thousands of dollars.
What You'll Earn
  • Salary range: $75,000 - $95,000 per year
  • FREE healthcare for you and your entire family
  • Dental & Vision insurance
  • Paid time off & sick time
  • 401(k) access
  • A real path to Director/VP-level scope as we grow
  • A mission-driven team that believes in doing the right thing

Ready to Make a Difference?
If you're looking for more than just a job-and want to help reshape how healthcare works for families-we'd love to hear from you.
