Role Overview

Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Mill Operator in Training

Rotation schedule will be 2 weeks on-site with 2 weeks off-site

Reporting to Mill Shift Supervisor

Responsibilities:
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Complete assignments throughout the mill areas that contribute to the production of high quality products that meet the requirements of customers in an efficient, hygienic, and safe manner while minimizing environmental impacts and costs
  • Comply with all environmental regulations and assist with spill prevention by reporting problems to the supervisor or area operator and helping to deploy sand bags for containment
  • Comply with all safety regulations. Ensures that daily workplace inspection is done each shift, to identify and correct workplace hazards. Completes SETA cards as required. Ensures that their Mining Safety Health Administration annual refresher is completed prior to the due date. Applies Hazard Recognition training to daily workplace activities
  • Ensure the Mill Shift Supervisor and peers are well informed of task status by providing carryover and updates of completed tasks throughout the shift
  • Communicate effectively with mill operators and your supervisor about your assigned tasks primarily in mill cleanup and asking for further clarification on unfamiliar tasks
  • Ensure your operational competency is developed by participating in reviewing and learning new processes, engaging in specialized area training, and regular evaluation of personal performance
  • Contribute to cost control by minimizing waste and avoiding damage to assets
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Able to lift fifty (50) lbs on a regular basis
  • Capable of wearing PPE including; hard hat, respirator, safety glasses, steel toed boots, hearing protection, or any other Personal Protective Equipment
  • Be highly motivated
  • Able to follow directions
  • Be a team player
  • Work outdoors with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions
  • A desire to advance to higher levels in the competency development system by training and becoming proficient at specific tasks and duties in the Mill Operations department
