Toxicology Technical Supervisor (LC/MS) – Physician Office Laboratory (POL)

Lighthouse Lab Services is excited to represent an established Physician Office Laboratory (POL) in the Daytona Beach, FL area that is seeking a Toxicology Technical Supervisor to lead its toxicology department. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced laboratory professional who enjoys being hands-on while providing technical leadership in a growing laboratory environment.

Position Overview

The Toxicology Technical Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of a high-complexity toxicology laboratory, ensuring quality, regulatory compliance, and efficient workflow. This individual will work closely with the Laboratory Director while remaining actively involved in LC/MS testing, troubleshooting, quality assurance, and staff supervision. The Technical Supervisor will directly oversee a team of two laboratory employees and serve as the primary technical resource for the department.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and scientific guidance to the Laboratory Director and laboratory staff.
  • Perform and oversee high-complexity toxicology testing using LC/MS instrumentation.
  • Remain hands-on in daily laboratory operations, including sample preparation, instrument operation, result review, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Supervise the day-to-day activities of two laboratory employees, including scheduling, training, competency assessments, coaching, and performance evaluations.
  • Ensure all testing is performed in accordance with CLIA, CAP (if applicable), HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Serve as the onsite Technical Supervisor during high-complexity testing as required under CLIA regulations.
  • Monitor quality control, calibration, proficiency testing, and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal laboratory performance.
  • Investigate and resolve quality issues, instrument failures, and testing discrepancies while implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Review and approve patient results, ensuring all quality standards have been met prior to release.
  • Assist with method validations, verification studies, and implementation of new assays.
  • Maintain laboratory documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality management records.
  • Recommend workflow improvements to increase efficiency, quality, and turnaround time.
  • Support laboratory inspections and ensure continuous regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with laboratory leadership to achieve operational and organizational goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Director.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific field.
  • Meets CLIA requirements to serve as a Technical Supervisor for high-complexity testing.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a high-complexity clinical toxicology laboratory.
  • Previous supervisory or lead laboratory experience preferred.
  • Strong hands-on experience with LC/MS toxicology testing and toxicology sample preparation.
  • Experience with Shimadzu instrumentation and Indikko instruments
  • Thorough understanding of CLIA regulations, quality systems, and laboratory compliance.
  • Strong troubleshooting, leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Shift: Monday – Friday | Day Shift

Salary: 80-90k
