Our Rushville, IN location is searching for an Technical Services Manager to lead the Technical Services Team supporting the Oil Free Centrifugal value stream. The Technical Services Manager is responsible for leading and developing the Manufacturing Engineering, Controls Engineering, and Maintenance functions within the Rushville Oil Free Centrifugal Value Stream. This position provides strategic and tactical leadership to drive operational excellence, equipment reliability, productivity improvements, capital project execution, automation initiatives, safety performance, and continuous improvement efforts.

The Technical Services Manager partners closely with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, EH&S, Product Engineering, and Finance to ensure manufacturing processes, equipment, facilities, and maintenance systems support current and future business objectives. The role is accountable for maximizing equipment uptime, improving manufacturing efficiency, implementing new technologies, and developing a high-performing engineering and maintenance organization.

AS AN TECHNICAL SERVICES MANAGER, YOU WILL:

  • Lead the division Engineering group to determine the most effective means of meeting manufacturing/divisional goals (safety, productivity, quality, delivery, employee survey results), driving process improvement, and supporting lean Six Sigma as well as 5S (7S) efforts.

  • Function as an integral part of the product development team, and provide guidance for DPSC, from a design for manufacturing perspective. Support product qualifications and new product launches.

  • Prioritize project work and provide capital budget recommendations.

  • Support quality system integration and upgrades

  • Support facilities needs and growth and help ensure safety and environmental compliance.

  • Hire, train, supervise, and develop staff. Plan for succession.

  • Establish clear performance expectations, objectives, and development plants for all direct reports.

  • Build a culture focused on safety, accountability, problem-solving, innovation, and continuous improvement

  • Drive succession planning and talent development for critical technical and leadership positions

Manufacturing Engineering

  • Develop and execute manufacturing strategies to improve productivity, quality, safety, and cost performance.

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and Operational Excellence methodologies.

  • Optimize plant layouts, material flow, labor utilization, and manufacturing processes.

  • Identify and eliminate production bottlenecks through process analysis and capacity planning.

  • Support new product introductions and manufacturing readiness activities.

  • Develop and maintain process standards, work instructions, and manufacturing documentation.

  • Drive scrap reduction, yield improvement, and cycle time reduction initiatives.

  • Establish and monitor manufacturing performance metrics.

Controls & Automation Engineering

  • Lead plant automation strategy and controls engineering activities.

  • Manage PLC, HMI, SCADA, robotic, vision system, and industrial network infrastructure.

  • Evaluate and implement Industry 4.0 technologies and smart manufacturing solutions.

  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of complex controls-related issues.

  • Develop equipment standards for automation systems and controls architecture.

  • Ensure cybersecurity compliance for industrial control systems.

  • Lead controls upgrades and automation projects to improve productivity and reliability.

  • Standardize control platforms to simplify maintenance and improve system performance.

Maintenance & Reliability

  • Provide leadership for preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities.

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive reliability-centered maintenance strategy.

  • Improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) through enhanced equipment reliability.

  • Ensure effective utilization of CMMS systems for maintenance planning and tracking.

  • Establish preventive maintenance schedules and predictive maintenance programs.

  • Drive improvements in Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and Mean Time To Repair (MTTR).

  • Manage spare parts inventory and critical equipment risk assessments.

  • Lead root cause failure analysis and corrective action implementation.

  • Ensure maintenance resources effectively support production requirements.

Capital Projects & Facility Management

  • Develop and execute annual capital expenditure plans.

  • Lead facility expansion, renovation, equipment installation, and modernization projects.

  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, contractors, and commissioning activities.

  • Conduct financial justification and ROI analysis for capital investments.

  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.

  • Coordinate facility infrastructure improvements, including utilities and building systems.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

  • Support and promote a zero-incident safety culture.

  • Conduct risk assessments and machine safety evaluations.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and applicable industry standards.

  • Support quality management systems and customer requirements.

  • Lead corrective and preventive action activities related to engineering and maintenance.

Strategic Planning

  • Develop multi-year manufacturing technology and equipment strategies.

  • Identify opportunities for automation, digitization, and process innovation.

  • Benchmark industry best practices and emerging technologies.

  • Support capacity planning and long-term facility growth initiatives.

  • Align engineering activities with plant operational and financial objectives.

Financial Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage engineering, maintenance, and capital budgets.

  • Monitor expenditures and identify cost reduction opportunities.

  • Justify and prioritize capital investments.

  • Drive maintenance cost optimization while improving equipment reliability.

  • Support achievement of plant productivity and profitability goals.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field

  • 8+ years of experience in related control and/or mechanical engineering positions in a manufacturing environment

  • Strong demonstrated project management experience

  • 5+ years of supervisory experience

  • Demonstrated experience with Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies

Schedule

Assembly operates on a 4-day, 10-hour work-shift schedule. Salaried employees who are not front-line supervisors work five days to support this arrangement. They can choose between working extended hours from Monday to Thursday with a half day on Friday, or they can opt for full eight-hour workdays from Monday to Friday.

About Our Location

Our 2-building campus offers a safe and clean work environment with a "family" atmosphere. We manufacture new semi-hermetic compressors and take the worn-out, failed compressors out of the field and remanufacture them to "like new" status, as well as manufacture crank shafts. Approximately 200 employees work in Rushville and are an integral part of our organization. A 2-building campus allows for learning and growth opportunities for all our team.
