About the role

We are seeking a talented Manager to lead the Mine Technical Services group at ouropen-pitmine in Boron, CA. You will be responsible for the leadership and direction of a staff of engineers and technicians who provide technical and systems solutions to develop the mine plan and mining strategy.

This role is a great opportunity to lead an excellent technical team and contribute to the success of Rio Tinto.

Reporting to the Mine Manager you will:

  • Manages day to day and strategic direction of mine engineeringincludinglong-range and LOM (LifeofMine) planning, geology, hydrogeology,tailingsand geotechnical functions
  • Creates an inclusive work environment and works with employees to ensure the work and behaviors of the team align with Company values.
  • Management and execution ofminedevelopment projects to improve safety, optimize assets, ensure the mine meets its annual production plans, and ensure the future expansion ofmineoperations.
  • Manages daily mine engineering functions withmineoperations.
  • Plans and supervises the work of a staff of professional engineers and technicians to accomplishmineplanning scenarios and analysis.
  • Reviews technical feasibility of proposed solutions to engineering problems and personally helps in solving difficult technical problems.
  • Optimizes the deployment of the technical workforce as priorities change by managing mine site and corporate requirements.
  • Oversees mine design, economic evaluation, cost estimating, productivity forecasting, equipment selection, and production scheduling on a wide range of studies from pre-scoping to feasibility studies.
  • Incorporates,investigates, anddevelops best practices in areas of property evaluation, mine engineering design and scheduling, and alternate mining technology.

  • Robust and proven HSE record.
  • Engaging and inclusive leadership skills
  • Bachelor's degree minimum, preferably in mine engineering or geoscience.
  • 10 plusyears' experienceleading mine technical teams in a senior leadership role
  • Knowledge of the key drivers in the mining industry and should possess project management skills
  • Demonstrate skills in stakeholder management within an integrated operation
  • Ability to prepare clear communication in the form of presentations and present projects and annual production updates to senior management
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • MBA or MSc in Finance
  • Mine operational experience achieved through management or supervision of a mine operations team.
  • PE License
