UCT is looking for a talented Sr Technical Manager to join us in Fremont, CA!

The Sr. Technical Manager leads laboratory operations and ensures the development, validation, and execution of analytical methods that meet quality, regulatory, and client standards. This role provides technical leadership by resolving complex issues, reviewing analytical data, and ensuring accuracy and compliance across testing processes. By overseeing quality systems, training staff, supporting client and sales interactions, and managing budgets, the Sr. Technical Manager drives operational excellence, continuous improvement, and reliable delivery of highquality analytical results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Oversees the development, validation and implementation of analytical methods, standards, procedures, data acquisition, processing and reporting for inspecting and testing client samples.
  • Identifies and solves difficult problems internal and external to the department including providing technical feedback and technical reviews of client requests to CSS and Sales Managers
  • Reviews and interprets analytical results, identifies complexities, and deduces variations in sample types. Identifies and resolves non-conformances within the quality system. Ensures conformance of analytical results with external/internal standards and safety requirements.
  • Performs level three QC on the final reports including detecting any non-obvious anomalies in the analytical results. 
  • Ensures attainment of quality assurance objectives in the laboratory including instrument calibration, preventive maintenance, and internal audits.
  • Interprets Company policies; establishes, revises or updates SOP’s.
  • Conducts training programs, participates in QA programs, safety programs and various training.
  • Communicates with clients as needed on special problems and projects.
  • Provides sales staff with technical information for special projects.
  • Differentiates between company-owned proprietary procedures and trade secrets about which disclosure is prohibited to third parties.
  • Assists in developing budgets and monitoring expenditures.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Sound understanding and knowledge of analytical chemistry and all applicable instrumentation.
  • Extensive knowledge and hands on experience on one or more of related analytical techniques such as ICP-MS, ICP-OES, IC, GC, GC-MS, FTIR, SEM/EDX etc.
  • Effective verbal, written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with individuals at all levels, both within and outside the organization.
  • Able to successfully prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrable understanding of production, engineering & quality initiatives, safety & quality practices.
  • College level mathematical & statistical skills; Proficiency with StarLIMS, Excel, PowerPoint and other systems/software to perform job duties satisfactorily.
  • Able to complete assignments in a timely manner in adherence to deadlines and with sense of urgency.

Education and Experience Requirements: 

  • B.S. degree with minimum 15 yrs. relevant experience or M.S. with minimum 10 yrs. relevant experience or Ph.D. with minimum 5 yrs. relevant experience

Work Environment: 

  • This job is usually performed in a professional laboratory environment, routinely using specialized laboratory equipment along with computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and other related laboratory equipment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical equipment, parts and vibrations.
  • The noise level in the work environment and manufacturing areas can occasionally be moderate or loud. 

Physical Demands: 

  • Requires long exposure to "cleanroom" conditions, wearing "cleanroom" garments and various personal protective items (gloves, goggles, etc.) depending upon work activity. 
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time. 
  • Requires steady hands and ability to handle hazardous chemicals safely, with great care and precision.
  • Able to safely lift up to 25 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear and is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is required to safely sit; climb stairs, maintain balance and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust optical focus.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $131,900 and $211,000 /year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, includingvariable pay and discretionary awardsin addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO (Paid Time Off) and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these additional compensation and benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
