Role Description The Legal Secretary Assistant role is a full-time, on-site position based in Southfield, MI. This role supports attorneys and legal staff by preparing, formatting, and proofreading legal documents, correspondence, and filings. Daily tasks include managing calendars, scheduling meetings, organizing case files, and maintaining electronic and physical records. The Legal Secretary Assistant will handle incoming email communications and follow-up. Additional responsibilities may include coordinating court filings, maintaining case management systems, and supporting general office operations to ensure efficient workflow.

Qualifications

  • 5 plus years of experience, preferably litigation and/or experience with a multi-state practice. Experience with insurance defense usually transfers well.
  • Knowledge of law and legal practices
  • Proficiency in Legal Document Preparation, including drafting, formatting, and proofreading pleadings, motions, and correspondence.
  • Strong Clerical Skills, including file management, data entry, scheduling, and organization of electronic documents.
  • Effective Communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, attorneys, and external partners.
  • Experience with office software and legal case management systems; strong typing accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality in a fast-paced legal environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education or certification in legal studies or paralegal/assistant programs is preferred.
  • Prior experience in a law firm or legal department is beneficial, particularly in insurance, subrogation, or litigation support.

Compensation and Benefits

  • This is a full time position (40 hour week/35 hour work week – paid 1 hour lunches). 
  • Full benefit plan with medical coverage the first day of employment.
  • Dental, vision, ST/LT disability, life insurance, pet insurance, accident insurance after 30 days. 
  • 2 weeks paid vacation/12 sick days per year. 
  • 401K after 90 days (profit sharing). 
  • Wellness Wednesdays in June, July, August (3 days). Most major holidays including MLK Day, Yom Kippur, and a floating holiday. 
  • Flexible schedule with start time as early as 8 and as late as 9:30 a.m. Make up time during week for doctor’s appointments, etc.  
  • After 90 days 1 day work at home or special flex working schedule offered.
  • Competitive salary based on experience.
