Client: Tennessee Department of Health (TDH)
Work Type: Remote
Duration: July 2026 - August 2027 with possible extension.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (CST)
About the Role
The Tennessee Department of Health is seeking an Epidemiologist to support the Surveillance Systems and Informatics (SSI) Program. This role focuses on improving communicable disease surveillance through Electronic Lab Reporting (ELR) and data systems.
This position is ideal for candidates with a background in public health who are interested in working with data systems and informatics tools to support disease monitoring and response.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support ELR onboarding using HL7 2.5.1 standards
  • Monitor disease surveillance systems, dashboards, and alerts
  • Investigate and resolve data quality and reporting issues
  • Support processing and validation of laboratory data
  • Maintain standard vocabularies and coding systems (e.g., LOINC)
  • Collaborate with technical teams to improve data workflows
  • Act as a liaison between data systems and public health program staff
Required Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of experience in epidemiology, public health, or disease surveillance
  • Experience with Electronic Lab Reporting (ELR) or similar public health data systems
  • Familiarity with HL7 messaging standards
  • Experience with SAS, SQL, or R for data analysis
  • Strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills
