Job description

Civitech is a public benefit corporation dedicated to creating a fairer and more equitable democracy by building the tools and infrastructure needed to increase civic participation, empower Democratic candidates to win, and support the success of progressive causes. Since our founding in 2019, over 500 partners-a range of nonprofit organizations, national political committees, and individual campaigns-have utilized Civitech's tools to reach tens of millions of voters to help create a more equitable and progressive democracy.
Civitech is a remote-first company hiring within our current footprint of 27 states (AL, AK, CA, CO, DC, DE, FL, GA, HI, IL, MA, MD, MN, NC, ND, NH, NJ, NV, NY, OH, SD, TN, TX, VA, WA, WI, WY). We maintain a physical co-working and collaboration headquarters in Austin, TX.
Our Commitment to Diversity & Representation:
It is structurally vital that our team reflects the rich diversity of the organizations and communities we seek to serve. We strongly and explicitly encourage women, people of color, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and members of other groups traditionally underrepresented in the technology sector to apply.
Our Core Values
  • We act with Integrity - At Civitech, we hold ourselves to the highest standards and value open and transparent communications with all of our stakeholders. Our rigorous approach to product design, testing, and data science leads to accurate assessments of our outcomes and challenges us to constantly improve our tools.
  • We are Changemakers - As a team, Civitech seeks to make transformational change in our democracy by eliminating obstacles meant to hamper contribution from every member of the community.
  • We are Collaborators - Buoyed by our mission, we look for opportunities to partner with everyone committed to making democracy easier to participate in. We seek to understand the challenges our partners face and use our skills and creativity to help them solve them.
  • We are Bold - We recognize that disruptive change won't come with doing business as usual. Civitech seeks to revolutionize civic participation by bringing innovation and creativity to politics.

Role Overview
As Manager of Business Development, you'll lead and grow Civitech's BDR function, building the pipeline engine that fuels our sales org. You'll manage a team of Business Development Representatives, coach them toward excellence, and work hand-in-hand with our VPs of Sales and Marketing to refine how we bring our tools to campaigns, nonprofits, and advocacy organizations nationwide.
This is a player-coach role - you'll set strategy, develop talent, and roll up your sleeves to help crack new markets when needed.
What You'll Do
Team Leadership
  • Hire, onboard, coach, and develop a team of BDRs focused on outbound and inbound pipeline generation
  • Run weekly 1:1s, pipeline reviews, and skill-building sessions to keep the team sharp and motivated
  • Set individual and team quotas in collaboration with sales leadership and hold the team accountable to performance metrics

Pipeline & Strategy
  • Own the top-of-funnel pipeline targets and work closely with the VP of Sales to align BDR activity to revenue goals
  • Develop and iterate on outreach sequences, messaging frameworks, and targeting strategies for Civitech's core segments
  • Collaborate with Marketing to align on campaigns, content, and inbound lead flow

Process & Operations
  • Build and maintain a healthy, well-documented sales pipeline in the CRM
  • Regularly audit and review our current outbound processes to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement
  • Continually iterate on sequencing, messaging, and tooling to optimize conversion rates and adapt to changing market dynamics
  • Analyze outreach performance data and share insights with Sales and Marketing leadership
  • In collaboration with sales leadership and ops/enablement, establish and evolve playbooks and training materials that scale team knowledge as we grow

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with the broader Sales team to ensure smooth handoffs from qualification to close
  • Work with Product to keep the BDR team informed on new features and tools
  • Serve as a voice of the market - surfacing prospect feedback to inform product and messaging

What We're Looking For
  • 3-5+ years in sales development or business development, with at least 1-2 years in a management or team lead capacity
  • Demonstrated ability to coach BDRs to hit quota and grow their careers
  • Strong command of outbound sales strategy and modern prospecting tools (CRM (Hubspot preferred), sequencing platforms, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, etc.)
  • Familiarity with the political, civic tech, or nonprofit landscape is a strong plus
  • Experience in a high-growth SaaS or technology startup environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills - you know how to craft messaging that resonates
  • Data-driven mindset: you track what matters and use it to improve
  • Genuine passion for progressive causes and democratic participation

Why Work at Civitech
  • Medical, Vision, & Dental Insurance
  • 401(k) plan
  • Employee Stock Options
  • Employer-paid Life Insurance and Short/Long Term Disability Insurance
  • Flexible Time Off & Paid Company Holidays
  • Flexible Spending Account
  • Parental Leave
  • Flexible Schedules
