Job description

Position Overview:

The Business Manager will oversee business operations at a Utility-scale Renewable Energy Operations Control Center (OCC) contracted by a Generation Operating Partner (GOP). The role is responsible for financial management, process optimization, resource planning, and supporting the OCC's mission to safely and efficiently operate and monitor renewable energy assets (solar, wind, battery storage) in compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., NERC, FERC, ISO/RTO protocols).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, track, and manage OCC operating budgets in collaboration with GOP leadership.
  • Oversee invoicing, receivables, and financial reporting.
  • Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations to improve cost efficiency.
  • Manage contract deliverables and assert compliance with all contractual obligations between OCC and GOP, including regulatory requirements (NERC/FERC/ISO/RTO).
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors and regulatory officials.
  • Maintain documentation related to contracts, audits, and regulatory submissions.
  • Lead initiatives to improve workflow efficiency, OCC business processes, and SOPs.
  • Assist in workforce planning, including staffing strategies, training plans, and shift schedules.
  • Coordinate procurement of OCC business services, supplies, and vendor management.
  • Present periodic performance summaries, KPI dashboards, and strategic updates to GOP and OCC leadership.
  • Monitor OCC business metrics and facilitate timely reporting to internal/external parties.
  • Serve as principal business contact between OCC, GOP, asset owners, and other key parties.
  • Support OCC and GOP relationship management including meetings, data requests, and business reviews.
  • Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate business and operational risks.
  • Support business continuity planning and incident response protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, or related field (MBA or relevant master's a plus).
  • 5+ years of business operations management experience, ideally in energy, utilities, or renewables.
  • Staff management experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with NERC, FERC, ISO, and GOP frameworks are strongly preferred.
  • Strong financial acumen; expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and business analytics.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite; experience with ERP/accounting systems is a plus.

Physical, Mental & Emotional Requirements:

Employee may be required to sit for long periods of time using a keyboard and monitor display, and travel to other locations. Must be able to organize and prioritize work in accordance with deadlines, adapt behavior and work methods in response to changing conditions or challenges. Employee will be involved with sustained activity required for analysis, reasoning, and problem solving. Must be able to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships, recognize emotionally charged issues and respond appropriately, act with professionalism, and work both independently and collaboratively. Must be able to proactively encourage a work environment that encourages innovation and creative solutions and be able to develop effective working relationships with all levels of the company and outside partners.

Work Environment:

The employee will primarily work in a climate-controlled office with occasional fluctuations in temperature. The employee will work at an assigned desk under artificial lighting. The employee may occasionally attend meetings and/or training outside of their assigned workstation. They may occasionally perform work remotely in the environment of their choosing. Employee may be required to perform some travel in a company vehicle and/or via commercially available transportation.
