What is a recruiter commission?

A recruiter commission is a fee or percentage of a candidate's first-year salary that a recruiter or recruiting agency earns after successfully placing a candidate in a job. This commission structure incentivizes recruiters to find qualified candidates for employers. The amount can vary widely, typically ranging from 15% to 25% of the candidate's starting salary. Some recruiters may work on a flat fee or a retainer basis instead, depending on the agreement with the employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a recruiter on commission, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Recruiter on commission, you need strong interpersonal skills, talent sourcing abilities, and a proven track record in candidate placement, often supported by a background in human resources or sales. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), recruitment platforms like LinkedIn, and CRM tools is typically required. Exceptional negotiation, resilience, and persuasive communication skills help build relationships and close placements in a competitive market. These skills are critical for consistently meeting placement targets and driving earnings in a commission-based role.

Are recruiter jobs commission-based?

Recruiter jobs can be commission-based, especially in staffing and agency environments, where recruiters earn a percentage of the candidate's first-year salary or a flat fee for successful placements. However, some recruiters also receive a fixed salary or a combination of salary and commission, depending on the employer and industry standards.

What does a recruiter who works on commission do?

As a recruiter who works on commission, your responsibilities are to fill employee positions for companies that are hiring. You carry out your duties internally with a company’s human resources (HR) department or externally with a staffing agency for recruiter commission pay, usually with a base salary plus commission for each candidate you place in a position successfully. Some positions offer only commission after you place a candidate. As an independent recruiter, you work with multiple companies through a staffing agency. As an internal recruiter for one company, you exclusively seek candidates to work at that company.

How is the commission structure typically set up for recruiter roles, and what should candidates expect in terms of earning potential and targets?

Recruiter commission structures often combine a base salary with performance-based incentives tied to successful placements. Commission may be a percentage of the placed candidate’s first-year salary or a flat fee, and targets are generally set monthly or quarterly. High performers can significantly boost their earnings, but reaching targets may require proactive sourcing, strong relationship-building, and adaptability to changing hiring needs. It's important to clarify commission details and expectations with potential employers during the interview process.

About Lendpro Mortgage:

At Lendpro Mortgage, we are a forward-thinking, direct lender dedicated to helping homeowners achieve their dreams. As a purchase-focused mortgage company, we pride ourselves on providing exceptional service, offering competitive rates, and building lasting relationships with both our clients and employees. Our goal is to deliver a seamless, customer-first experience in everything we do.

We’re looking for an experienced Mortgage Recruiter to join our growing team and help us attract and hire top-tier talent. In this role, you’ll be pivotal in hiring loan officers and branch managers who align with our values and drive our success.

Role Overview:

As a Mortgage Recruiter at Lendpro, you will take the lead in the recruitment process for loan officers and branch managers. You will collaborate with the founders to develop targeted strategies that attract experienced professionals who are a perfect fit for our dynamic team. Your efforts will directly support our growth as a direct lender in a competitive mortgage market.

If you have a proven track record of successfully recruiting in the mortgage industry and a passion for identifying top talent, we want to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Leadership: Work closely with the founders to define hiring needs, refine job descriptions, and create a strategic approach to recruiting loan officers and branch managers.
  • Expand Talent Pools: Utilize a variety of sourcing strategies, such as networking, industry events, military networks, and local service organizations, to build a robust pipeline of qualified candidates.
  • Foster Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with both active and passive candidates to ensure you always have top talent ready for future roles.
  • Maximize Outreach: Use multiple outreach channels, including social media, job boards, open houses, job fairs, and cold calling, to engage high-quality candidates and fill vacancies quickly.
  • Lead Full-Cycle Recruiting: Manage the front end of the recruitment process—source, screen, set up interviews, and onboard successful candidates.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in full-cycle recruiting within the mortgage industry, or experience as a loan officer, branch manager, or sales leader in real estate or financial services.
  • Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of mortgage processes, trends, and market dynamics, especially for purchase-focused lending.
  • Tech-Savvy: Comfortable with CRM and applicant tracking systems (ATS), MS Office, Google Suite, and social media platforms to support recruitment efforts.
  • Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and time-management skills with the ability to build rapport quickly and effectively with candidates at all levels.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred, though not required. High school diploma required.

Why Join Lendpro Mortgage?

  • Purpose-Driven Culture: Join a company with a focus on empowering both customers and employees to reach their full potential.
  • Growth Opportunities: We offer the opportunity to be part of a fast-growing, dynamic company where your contributions make a direct impact on our success.
  • Supportive Team: Be part of a collaborative, high-energy environment that values integrity, excellence, and hard work.

If you are a seasoned recruiter ready to make a difference at a company that is reshaping the mortgage experience, we’d love to connect with you!
