Job description

We are looking for an experienced operations leader to own and drive our end-to-end Cash and Position Reconciliation function. As Deputy General Manager – Reconciliation, you'll take full ownership of transitioning, stabilizing, and continuously improving this critical workstream — leading people, processes, and client outcomes in a fast-paced, controls-focused environment.

This is a senior leadership position and the primary point of contact between our delivery organization and the client, responsible for building a high-performing operation from the ground up.

Location: Onsite Needham, MA - will be working a hybrid work schedule

In this role, you will: Engagement Leadership & Transition
  • Own the transition strategy for taking over Cash and Position Reconciliation from the client/incumbent, including knowledge transfer, documentation, and process mapping
  • Establish governance frameworks, escalation protocols, and reporting structures
  • Serve as the senior client contact for all reconciliation matters
Cash & Position Reconciliation Management
  • Oversee end-of-day and intraday reconciliation across all accounts and asset classes (L1 and L2 services)
  • Drive timely identification, investigation, and resolution of cash breaks and unreconciled items
  • Partners with custodians, prime brokers, and counterparties to resolve discrepancies quickly
  • Implement controls to minimize aged breaks and meet settlement deadlines
People & Team Leadership
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team of leads and analysts
  • Set clear accountability and performance metrics
  • Foster a culture of accuracy, ownership, and continuous improvement
  • Manage resource planning and succession to support growth and SLAs
Risk, Controls & Compliance
  • Maintain a robust control environment with documented SOPs and exception handling
  • Ensure compliance with internal risk policies and regulatory/client requirements
  • Identify and mitigate operational risks proactively
  • Lead audit readiness and support internal/external audit reviews
Technology & Process Improvement
  • Evaluate and optimize reconciliation platforms (Intellimatch, AutoRek, SmartStream, or equivalent)
  • Champion automation initiatives to improve STP rates and reduce manual effort
  • Partner with technology teams on system enhancements and UAT
  • Drive process standardization and best-practice adoption
Client Relationship & Reporting
  • Deliver regular MIS, dashboards, and performance reporting
  • Own client SLAs and KPIs, ensuring consistent achievement
  • Lead business reviews and governance forums with stakeholders
  • Manage escalations and drive root-cause analysis and preventive action
What you need to have to be considered:
  • 15+ years in financial services operations, with significant time in Cash and/or Position Reconciliation
  • Experience managing large reconciliation teams
  • Track record leading client engagements, transitions, or outsourcing/insourcing initiatives in banking or asset management
  • Experience working with custodians, prime brokers, and multi-asset portfolios
  • Deep expertise in Cash and Position Reconciliation (equity, fixed income, derivatives)
  • Hands-on experience with platforms such as Intellimatch, AutoRek, SmartStream TLM, Duco, or similar
  • Strong understanding of trade lifecycle, settlements, corporate actions, and fund accounting
  • Familiarity with AI-driven solutions is a plus
  • Proven ability to lead large, diverse teams in a high-pressure, SLA-driven environment
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at C-suite level
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving and execution skills
  • Experience leading teams through change and transformation
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Commerce, or a related field (required)
  • MBA or postgraduate qualification in Finance/Operations (preferred)
